Legal rights when brokers try to charge more under false errors!!

I've recently been looking for a car insurance and visited the go compare site, where I found a really competitive quote from a broker company called Right Choice Insurance brokers or rcib

Unfortunately the experience has been a nightmare. All the information I put in go compare website was accurate but try to find differences so they could charge us more. After 3 day they recognise that the info was correct and accepted to keep the price we were quoted by I compare but after we paid the full amount (for the second time) and we were sent the policy documents, it turned out that they have changed the conditions (different insurer and £300 excess instead of £150) and we were not informed about this at any point.

I think that go compare should take part of responsibility for the companies that they advertise in their web and stop working with brokers that just use their site to be found and end up quoting much higher through very unprofessional practices. This company was!Right Choice Insurance Brokers Ltd.

This is going to be reported to the Ombudsmen but I wanted to know any other examples of gross misconduct from these brokers and how you dealt with them. The broker has continually lied to cover himself and we feel as if we are stuck now because if we cancel they claim we lose 50 pounds even though it is in the 14 day period.

  • You cannot have the FOS intervene until you have either exhausted the brokers complaint process or they have failed to provide their final written within 8 weeks of you making a formal complaint.

If you contact them before the FOS just basically write the complaint letter for you and tbh if your a basic grasp of english and grammar you can typically do better yourself.

Do you have screenprints or such to confirm the excess etc that you bought at?

And you really are better doing it yourself. You should see some of the writing styles of complaints that have been taken via the FOS. This subject has been in a thread before but all those that have seen complaints made via the FOS agreed that the information given was very poor and usually contained errors.

RCIB do this all the time, it appears to be their business model.

Google "RCIB complaint" or do a search of moneysavingexpert forums, there are a huge amount of people in the same position

    If it is even complete.

FOS do seem to be in direct competition with the ambulance chasers in their efforts to submit nonsensical complaints.

Really it is not their job though. They are only really suppose to deal with complaints once you've already exhausted the brokers/ insurers internal processes in which case they have your form etc which they can send rather than having to paraphrase - esp as the call centre agents will be doing them between wrap up and all call centres staff are targeted on ensuring they are spending their time on calls rather than doing stuff between calls.
  • Hi

I have had the same problem with them just now and i am furious!!! I was quoted an amount and when called was told that it had gone up £100 as i had put in some incorrect information.

I also asked the question when i took out the policy if i would incur any charges if i cancelled and was advised that i would not. I have now been told that I would be charged £70 as a cancellation fee and not sure where they are getting this figure as it states £45 on their website after further research!!

My policy is not even due to start until 19th Nov..

I had also noticed that they had increased the excess to £300 from £150 too..

I am going to be repoting them to the FSA and also lodging a complaint with the owner/ MD or whoever I can find.

If anyone has any advice please let me know as i really don''t think they should get away with this.

    Thanks

    Louise

The fsa won't be interested in you reporting them.

Read up on their complaints procedure in your policy and follow that, escalating to the fos (or court) if you are unhappy with their response.

As this sort of thing seems to be systematic and part of their business model maybe it's gone beyond an individual consumer complaint so might be something the FSA should be looking at?
