You only have 30 days from when you get the form to send it back otherwise you will not get the benefit backdated.
  • I think they gave me six weeks on the one I have, I don't have it to hand to check, but I'm ok at the moment timewise, I'm fairly sure on that :)

    thank you tho

    Hi there,
When you complete the forms make sure you keep a copy (I photocopy every page) as it is very useful when you come to reapply.;)

Any forms i send to DWP i send special delivery (£4.80) because they have a knack of losing them.
Get reports from as many health professionals as you can, make sure you include
every little thing you suffer from, even if you think its petty include it because
it all counts, don't leave a blank anywhere on the forms and remember that to qualify for DLA you have to suffer 24/7 365 days otherwise you will be refused.
DWP will most likely turn down your claim but appeal.(they refuse 6 out of 10,but approve more than 50% on appeal)

Don't just rely on CAB because they do miss things, remember you know yourself better than they do.
fill in a duplicate form word for word so you have a reference to what is actually on the form, don't be surprised if it takes them a year to sort the claim out.

  • just to let you know my brother gets low mobility & high care component DLA due to being clinically depressed (including not going out alone etc) and very overweight, but he does see a pysciatrist,

The GP didnt support my brothers decision...
A DWP GP didnt support my brothers application...

My brothers application was turned down, my mum appealed on his behalf and it was sent to a tribunal... the only new evidence presented was a diary of my brothers day to day activities and what my mum had to do etc... My mum also writ a letter explaining how the care of my brother day to day effected her.

Day later my bro recieved a letter saying he had been awarded some DLA...

As your waiting for the decision to come back start asking the person who mainly looks after you to start writing a diary of your day to day needs (it CAB advised my mum on this)

    All the best xx
  • Thanks for that Claire, my GP I think would be supportive, I've not discussed it with him yet but he's always fab - I'm still waiting to hear from the referrals that he made, seems to be taking ages

  • My mum thought our WGP was going to be supportive aswell as he tends to be quite a good GP, but he didnt support the application, i think when you next go to GP make sure your GP knows how your illnesses effect you life day to day and it does say on the dla website to ask your GP to see you before filling any form out from dla...

Have you rung your GP to see whats happening with your refferals?

My sister was granted DLA on her first application - lower care rate only - but she's pleased to get that because of all the refusals that occur now. She filled out the form herself and put her GP as someone to contact for medical details. She didn't tell him about it as she didn't want to influence him if the DLA people asked for a report from him. They did and also sent a doctor to her house to give her a medical. If you fill out the form in your own words and don't try and influence your doctors maybe you'll stand a better chance of getting DLA. I think you should certainly qualify because of your medical conditions. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Anxiety is very debilitating, and certainly not permament once you address the negative thought patterns.

Depression can be clinical or circumstantial - I think a GP would certainly be reluctant to sign you off with DLA without exploring every avenue of trying to help get you back on your feet.

I think that link will work, however, if not.... Google Charles Linden method. It works.

I understand completely what you are going through, it's hell and one that you think there is no end too... but you can and will get better once you realise that there is nothing to be afraid of.

    Good luck
