thanks peaches
the job centre is at the end of my road so I popped in today on the way home and got one.
had a look through it and omg.. Our local CAB have an outreach worker who will meet you at your gp surgery and help fill in the form with you so I'm going to ring and see when I can get an appointment for that to happen.
Meanwhile, I'm completely exhausted, I got home around 2 this afternoon and slept til almost 6 so of course now although tired, Im not sure i'l be able to sleep :mad:If indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully.

Do you see a gynae about your PCOS? They now know that it is related to insulin resistance (a pre cursor to diabetes) and this can not only stop you losing weight but make you put on weight. I have this also and am overweight. Prior to my last pregnancy I was on metformin and will go back on it now that I have finished breastfeeding. It really helps with the weight loss and also controls the appetite as it helps to control insulin levels.
Have you had a glucose tolerance test? I also found a low GI diet worked well for me because of the insulin resitance.
i hope this helps.:)0 -
I haven't seen anyone about my pcos since I was 19.. long long ago, lol
I did speak to my gp about it a couple of years ago but he said the medication often caused more problems than the pcos itselfBut sometimes the facial hair really gets me down, he did recommend someone who did laser for it but I can't afford that at the moment.
I had glucose tolerance tests n stuff when I was pregnant (baby is nearly 17 years old now, lol) but nothing since. I've to see him next week so I think I'll make a list of everything I've not bothered with til now and see how things go
I used to eat low carb and that did help a bit.. but with the depression came a bit of a slump with any kind of enthusiasm for anything - including eating properly so I started to live on toast and packet mash
Since this thread and all the lovely replies I have started to feel more positive about things and am determined to sort out my health, both physical and mental, although I have a feeling that if I feel better physically then the mental stuff will improve too. It's so disheartening to know that even a short walk to the local shops will mean a lot of pain and suffering later so it makes me anxious and then the anxiety grows and grows til I don't feel like I can do anything  and I don't want to be like this.. !!!!!! I'm not even 40 yet and I feel like an old woman!
Thanks agian everyone and that is the coolest name ever squoogIf indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully.

Me too! I get anxiety if I think I have lost my tweezers! When I have lost weight in the past, the hair growth does improve. I think you should definately ask to see a specialist, metformin is widely used and only has minor side effects until your body is used to it(upset tum!) this is also lessened if you eat low carbs.
GPs are often slow to know the latest in a particular specialty. It sounds as though you should be reassessed for the PCOS, have a GTT, see a gynaecologist and/or endocrinologist and get some meduication that will help you. All easier said than done I know, I have been putting off going to the GP to discuss the same issues for 8 months even tho' I know all the above. I am determined to go this week!
I have just turned 41:eek: and I want to be a yummy mummy:D not an overweight, old woman who can hardly make it up the hill to school...:o I know I am the only person that can make the change.... I just wish it didn't feel so hard. Why do I turn to the comfort food every time I'm stressed when I know its no good. I guess I just want a quick fix.
I'm glad you posted, I didn't know there was anyone out there in a similar predicament to me.
And thank you for your comment on my name, that made me feel good!:A
Good luck with everything.0 -
Thanks squoog, it's good to know that I'm not alone and I've taken your suggestions on board and going t mention it all to my gp next week, poor sod will be bombarded, lol
I have a mirena coil in, I wonder if that will have any effect on the treatment that can be offered? gonna google and find out, lol
take care you tooIf indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully.

Please be nice as this is my first post although I've lurked for ages

Just thought I'd check back in and see how things are going for you. How is the applic. for DLA going? They don't make it easy do they?
I did one for my son a few years ago and it is due to be renewed this year I am dreading it! It really takes it out of you, going over stuff you try not to think about. Be prepared and definately get help with it if you can.
I hope you had a positive visit with the GP, were they able to help at all?
Anyway, you are in my thoughts. :A0 -
hiya! thank you for thinking of me.
I've got the form and have started to fill it in with the easy bits, and I'm going to get the CAB to help with the rest.
My gp has sent me for lots of tests, some of which have come back with dodgy results needing more tests, lol, he's also referred me to a nurse to get my lymph thingy sorted out, just waiting to hear from her. I've done some research on the mirena and seemingly people who were blaming it for their symptoms and had it removed actually had no significant change even a few months after so I'm not sure about it now.. gp said he didn't think it was a factor either
I was very ill a couple of weeks ago where all my lymph glands swelled up - I looked very odd and was in the worst pain I could imagine.. all gp could do was give me painkillers and wait it out. Spent pretty much a whole week sleeping through it.
How's everyone else doing? Hope you're all wellIf indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully.

Again from experience, when you fill in the form and they ask about how far you can walk etc., make sure you say you cannot walk at all without pain and discomfort. It's a lot of form filling and takes time and some thought but get your friend to check your answers before you send them off -you may find he/she sees you more clearly than you see yourself. If you get the higher rate of mobility DLA, then you can get a car from Motability and free car tax, or use the money to get around in other ways (e.g. taxis). If you drive or are driven by your friend, have you applied to your local council for a blue badge? Again it would need to be supported by your GP, but it is well worth getting for convenience of parking and you can also get cut-price or free admission at many places (such as Chester Zoo, CADW Heritage sites, Eden Project, etc. etc.). If you e-mail me direct I have something I can send you that might help with your claim - ellanvannin52@tiscali.co.uk
If it's ok I'll email you now, sorry it's been a long timeIf indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully.
