JC enforce daily signings

I have to walk for over an hour to sign on, I'm just really concerned that the JC will enforce weekly signings, or even daily ones like I've heard rumours about?!

Even if they do, you just have to get on with it if you want the benefit paid to you.

    Borrow a bike

Look for jobs on the way

apart from anything else, apart from job seeking, what would you be doing instead.

Think of it as cardiovascular excersize and it's good for you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I wish I only had to make the journey to work once a fortnight instead of everyday... you must be exhausted...!!
Marge... if the bible has taught us nothing else, which it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls sports like hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing and such and such...! Homer Simpson
  • They would have to open 24 hrs if everyone had to sign on every day....(I wouldn't put anything past them)..
Its like when they send you for jobs, sent someone near me for a job.6am start, 9/10 miles away. When he said he had no transport she looked at his feet.ok some might say "well its a job",and I suppose it is, but your not telling me someone who lived nearer could not have taken the job?.Good result for the jobless figures, they stopped his money, another one off the books..

I agree, I hope they make us sign on 5 times a day, to enable me to indulge in my thrilling job seeking activities. I love job seeking.
  • You will still only be signing on once a every two weeks. The other weekly/daily appointments are will be with an advisor but you wouldnot be signing on. You can claim your travel money back from the jobcentre if you have to attend an appointment any day apart from your signing day, similar to how you would claim travel money to a job interview back.

Why do you have to walk for an hour? Are there no buses?

If you have been unemployed for over 6 months you advisercan give you a travel discount card that can get you discounts with some bus companies (but this varys from place to place) and also half price train tickets anywherein the country.

I'm not being sarcastic at all, as I've just dusted off my old bike and have decided not to renew my monthly train pass, but have you considered getting on your bike?

You can normally get hold of a free one on sites like Freecycle, Freegle, Freeshare, Trashnothing, Gumtree Freebies or similar - you can usually post a 'wanted' advert, too. Perhaps you could also put up notes in local shops that accept free ads?

I get to save £45 per month in public transport costs, the cheapest train fare (I don't think the bus works out any cheaper).

The city centre is 2 miles away and takes me nearly an hour to walk into town or half an hour to walk to my local fitness studio and who wants to add an extra hour of walking onto a fitness session! ?

The average person walks 2-3 miles an hour) whereas the average person cycles 10 miles an hour which would take your sign-on journey down to 10-20 minutes.
  • you have to laugh really dont you,its not as if the jc+ have any real jobs on offer is it?
they plan to make all benefit applications over the internet,is it beyond their imagination to let people sign on online?

Refusal of employment attracts a sanction and entitlement is unaffected so the person remains 'on the books' and is reported amongst the 'jobless figures'

It's probably a very small figure overall and barely noticeable, but are you sure?

Wasn't the definition changed under Thatcher to Unemployed and receiving benefits...just before a sequence of changes removed entitlement for people still signing on?
