Os daily 20 Sept 2012

Options
This is the Daily thread for Thursday 20 September 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

What's happening? Where is everyone? Stumbled out of bed this morning to a loaded dishwasher (OH was supposed to empty last night), and a old house, so put central heating on, only for half an hour; loaded dishwasher; got coffee so happier now!

Taking ds1 to watch Joseph and the dreamcoat on the stage in Darlington later. Keeping fingers crossed for kitchen delivery this week, but other than that and eating out of the freezer, and the inevitable cleaning up, that isme for today!
    Hugs to those in need.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Cloudy and overcast and nippy here this morning. I don't think it's going to be long before we have to put the heating on, it's really chilly in the morning and evenings. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, mash, veg, stuffing and gravy, and I did manage to get the trifle assembled and that was dessert, still nearly half left so dessert for tonight is also sorted, but I'm not sure yet what we will be having for the main meal yet, will sort that later.

Have the normal round of chores to do today, really need to get stuck in as I seem to dilly about then not get anything done, I would like to get washing, drying and ironing done, housework and then may get time to do some cooking/baking, but that could be done tomorrow afternoon, once I've been shopping. Maybe I should go back to writing a list so as jobs get done I can cross them off, I seem to be able to focus better and don't get distracted so easily if I have something to refer to!

Will again be trying to keep the shopping bill as low as possible but do need a few bits I've run out of so have a bit of list already before I've properly checked storecupboards and freezer, so will need to be a bit inventive!

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

Woke early so made a pot of tea and had a browse on here.

DD getting ready for work and taking packed lunch I made last night. Plumber arriving today to finish off work in bathroom and want to take library books back this morning and visit weekly market to get free range eggs.

Bribing DH with YS pork chop and veg for lunch as I want to visit Lidl on way back to see dd in hospital this afternoon. Hope to get more info on heart scan etc.

Will need to get YS fish out of freezer as promised to make fish pie for tonight. Yesterday's chicken and mushroom pies were very much appreciated and I want to freeze a portion of marrow lasagne so I will eventually have a selection of home cooked meals for dd at uni.

Hope you are recovering from the fall and please at least pretend to take it easy;)

Hugs and positive vibes to those job hunting, poorly, worried or all three.

  • Morning all back to the school run this morning, still feeling a bit stiff but getting better by the day
Memo to oneself :look what your doing whilst getting around bike strewn paths :):)
Not a lot on the cards today maybe a swift hoover through and a flick with the duster.I am making a cajun spice marinade for my chicke dinner tonight (mainly because I fancy something spicy to liven up the chicken and someone gave me a jar of the spice :))
Depending on the weather I may have it with salad or wedges if its a bit chillier outside. The nights are drawing in now it was almost dark by 7.15 last night winter is on its way again. Not cold enough for the CH yet though if I get chilly at night I just put one of my knitted blankets around my knees far cheaper.Right I'm off for some tea and toast for breakfast Have a good day everyone

P.S. Thank you all for your good wishes
  • Morning esmf73 and all who cross and follow.

Yes 17 degrees in my hallway today. The temperature is dropping rapidly in the mornings but the menfolk have not complained yet. I must admit to having the fire on for half an hour last night though.

We had a hedgehog on the garden last night bimbling around. It set off the outside light and I peeped out to see as it's usually a cat. I wonder if it's looking for a place to hibernate. Hope it doesn't fall into the pond.

Snuggled in bed with lappie and a cuppa at the moment. Off to town this afternoon to get my eyes tested. We go to a small independent optician who is brilliant and not too expensive.

Tea is something with mince or sausages or I might get us a treat in M&S............

Will vacuum and dust this morning and put a load in the washing machine in a minute. There are a couple of OH's shirts to iron too.

Monnagran hoping for some exciting news this morning!

Well hugs and kind thoughts to all who need them.

    Have a good day all.

    Morning all

Glad you're starting to feel a bit better, Jackie!

I am having a nice relaxing morning today. Don't start work until 10am (well, that's when I am paid to be there but in practice I will need to get there by 9.30!) but after taking OH to the station at 6am I decided not to go to sleep. Last week I went back to sleep for a couple of hours and felt awful afterwards. I need to work up to getting on the treadmill on these mornings (one a week) when i don't start work until a bit later but for now I am pleased to just be staying awake! Had a nice cup of tea in bed and been browsing the Boots 3 for 2 Christmas gifts online :) getting very excited about Christmas already! :j

Our heating has been on for a few days now....it is off right now as it goes off at 7am (when I'd usually leave the house) but despite being tucked up in bed I am freezing, so I might need to put it back on for an extra hour!

I am only in for 2 hours today and am then visiting my grandparents. Being part time means I can do this once a week now which is really nice. I owe them a lot as they had a huge hand in bringing me up! When I phoned yesterday, my nanny said she hadn't left the house or seen anyone apart from grandad since Saturday :( but me coming means they will go out to the shops to get something for lunch and I will keep them company for a few hours.

I then have opticians this afternoon. It will be the first time in months and months that I have been into town, so I may have a little browse in the shops. Can't spend too much money, though!

Got my ironing pile finished yesterday, and a couple of loads of washing done. Just need to do some bras today and a set of white sheets, and I will be up to date.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Morning all - I'm awake; stayed up late watching films with the adult stepkids and reading so only got a couple of hours sleep (again). Definitely cold out there this morning; DH insisted on putting the heating on last night, but I turned it off again pronto when no-one was looking.

Roast pork for us all last night, with proper roast potatoes in beef dripping - yum. DH and DSS trundled up to Tesco to see what reduced bargains they could find for dessert - trifle and white choc/raspberry cheesecake. DSS had planned to get the train home but crashed on the sofa instead; he's useful for morning chores like catfeeding and washing-up :) I must say, we trained him well. He's just announced he may live with us next summer as he has to do some kind of placement along with his thesis. DSD is with us until Friday now, and has her theatre interview this afternoon. The play she's interviewing for is booking through till next April, so if she got that it would be fabulous. She'd be living here from November until the end of the run, and then try and get something else until the Edinburgh Fringe.

Work HR called yesterday, bless them. My first week back (week after next) they only want me to do 10.30-3.00 Tues-Thurs as a gentle easing in, and then work up gradually over 4 weeks with negotiation (ie. them telling me off for doing too much, and fitting in physio appointments). They're banning me from doing the usual silly amounts of unpaid overtime. What stars - they desperately want me back but not in such a way that it risks my recovery from the surgery. There's a current project my boss is organising which means I may do some of it from home instead of the office. HR pointed out there are more things in an office to trip over than at home, but I said I have 9 cats so I think I won that one on penalty points!

I should go to the bank today and could probably do another charity shop run on the way. Not doing dinner tonight because DH and DSD are out, so I'll make do with something snacky like a fish finger sandwich or poached eggs on toast.

Have a good day everyone - hugs all round.

Add this to the world wide corn and wheat harvests being well down on normal levels. You can expect to pay more In the shops again soon.

Today I'm At the hospital. Pain clinic for me. After that there are a few jobs around the house that I need to do. Also If the weather stops dry a couple of things In the garden could do being being sorted out.

For Dinner tonight I shall be roasting a turkey leg. for my wife and I. I shall serve It with roast spuds and veg. Instead of gravy I will be doing a Garlic, lemon,Mustard and Honey .
