Only certain insurers use them. Its not something every insurer does.

They can track the cars every movement. They instantly know how fast its going where it is how many miles you have covered and how hard you brake and corner.

Some very unhappy customers. And they are not always the cheapest.

Changes to the policy can be costly. And general restrictions.

Like not being able to drive between the hours of 11pm and 7am.

That maybe a problem when job hunting.

One member on her posted that his sone was going to go over the 6000 miles they chose when taking out the policy but was about to go over and they wanted £78? for
and extra 250 miles. Only offered topup's in 250 mile lumps.

I think thats changed but goes to show how restrictive they are.

Adding another modification to my car, Insurance are charging me £30 extra. £15
of that is the admin fee which seems very reasonable after reading some pay £50 fees.

For a young male now its looking at £3000 a year... Silly.

  • I have got cheapes £2,000 with my mum and dad as named drivers and then oddly £6,000 when I was a named driver on my dads car...?

Yeah they are really hitting the adding a newly passed drivers onto parents cars to stop fronting.

Why does a MD with a company jad suddenly go out and buy a 5 year old corsa. Then a week later adds his offspring to his policy as an occasional driver.

The one i read about it was for his daughter who had tastefully covered everything in pink fluff.
The refused to payout on that.

Yes, my firm was involved with a case where the client had insured a pink VW Beetle in the father's name - who was a 50-odd year old married chartered accountant with his own BMW - with the daughter named. Didn't take a genius to work out who the true main user was.

Things have changed dramatically since then.
17 year olds have been hammered with insurance increases.

My daughter insured her classic mini for £550 two years ago, when she was 17.
That was a classic policy, (including commuting though) now no longer available to under 21's.

    Let me guess, Footman James?
  • My daughter and b/f both 18 took out insurance 2 years ago for a 900cc Matiz and its around 7 years old and costs 2k and they both passed pass plus. They are hitting young male drivers hard as many of them drive like idiots and I know not all of them do

Buy a 1ltr engine 12 v car. Add on experienced additional drivers (saved £1000 approx on daughters insurance by adding her dad and aunt). Adjust excess and mileage on quotes. Daughter paid £1330 on a 10 month policy ,gets 1yr ncb.HTH

Policy in her own name and she is the main driver.

Are you male or female,,,,currently females get much lower prices (in the post you quoted it was for the posters daughter) also location plays a part, some postcode are known for incurring very high costs
