So how about answering the questions you've been asked by many of the posters on this thread who are in a position to offer advice?

You haven't told us, despite several of us asking, what his routine is.

Also, we need to know some stuff about his life. It might not seem pertinent to you, but it may be important if you view it from a dog's point of view.

For instance, do you take him out in the garden, or does he go out on his own?

Do you reward him profusely for going in the garden?

What do you do when he toilets indoors?

Have you ever kept a diary of the times he goes outside or makes a mistake indoors (I know from experience that my dogs will need to go out at around 9 in the evening when they've had their evening meal at around 7 - by letting them out between 8.30 and 9.00 I can avoid mistakes)

If you can fill in these blanks (rather than shoot abuse at those that are trying to help you) we can move forward and help you.

Have you got a moment in your busy schedule to answer these questions? Otherwise it's a bit like taking a child to the Dr with a rash, telling the Dr she cries a lot and then walking out only to come back a week later complaining that the child still has a rash...

    never punish him

so what DO you do to reward him? What is rewarding for some dogs isn't for others. For instance, my Springer will go nuts for verbal praise, with my Labradoodle it goes in one ear and out of the other, but if I have a piece of bread for him, I can get his full attention. Many owners praise their pups when they 'go' outside, but if you have a shy pup, this can actually be perceived as a punishment as they find it scarey.

Am I right in saying this pup has had a spell in kennels when quite young, and also had an injury?

Great, that's good to hear. How about some responses to the other questions?

speak to him with a firm voice and tell him off

OK, thanks. Now can we drill down into the reward bit. What do you use to reward and when does he get it in relation to 'the act' (during, after, when he gets back in the house)

If you always go out with him, (keeping him on a lead if necessary to focus his mind on the job in hand rather than play) you can make sure doing it outside is rewarding.

Keeping a diary may help predict the times he's most likely to want to go out.

I know it's frustrating, but try to keep your reaction to toileting indoors to a minimum. If he's actually in the act, interrupt his behaviour and usher him out, but if you come across it later, telling him off will mean nothing to him (and may also encourage things you don't want, like Coprophagia (eating his and other dogs poo) and doing it in hidden places)

Hope this helps, please let us know how you get on.
