Please, please - advice re bullying

  • I always say with bullying some self defence classes might help, not so much against groups of bullies but certainly with his confidence in being able to defend himself, it takes away that edge of desperate impotence or sense of being powerless.

Besides i'm sure you've heard it often only takes one beating and you never see a bully again. Obviously that would be my last resort though!
  • I have no real suggestions to help, I'm sorry.

Bullying makes my blood boil. I was bullied at secondary school (verbal not physical), I was so miserable, my mum knew but I wouldn't let her do anything about it in case it made it worse.

I just put up with it for probably about 3 years, the day I left school was one of the happiest days ever. If I ever saw one of "my bullies" again I would give them such a gobfull for making my life a misery!

I really hope you can find a solution.

Just wanted to say good for you for tackling the little thugs :T
  • I know the mother of one of the shouters, as her son was involved with bullying DS in the original episodes. She called me and was mortified, we had a really good conversation and truly she is a really good person. She came down on her son like a ton of bricks at that time so I imagine that's why he was so upset today.

It just goes to show that it isn't always the parents...

There'll be mucky pants again in the morning every time they see a teacher look in their direction. What brilliant timing.

    Best of luck

hi is there a way of nipping this in the bud early on in the bullying?? as they are legally obliged to protect your child can a parent threaten legal action against the school if they seem to be doing nothing to protect the child???

just a question! dont shout at me if im wrong lol
  • Thanks Niggyp, there is legislation 'safeguarding children', and although bullying itself isn't a crime, some of its component parts are.

The school have been great so far - the head of year phoned me this afternoon to let me know that they've decided to come down hard on the bullies. Parents are being contacted as well as detentions being handed out regarding the first incident. I will find out what they're doing on Monday regarding yesterday, but I do feel confident that it will be dealt with strongly.

The boys in the group yesterday have all apologised to DS (but sorry... too late guys....) apart from the main ringleader who had another pop at DS today. DS stood up to him and he didn't really know what to do!

Thank you everyone for your support, this has been so stressful. Hopefully it will now be over.

    Have a good weekend all.

Well done to your son for standing up to the bully, I hope that gave him confidence and hope! :D Delighted to hear the school is taking a hard line, I think this is so important.
