Orange credit check failed !

So I finally decided to get myself a smart phone - a samsung galaxy S3...

There is a nice deal on phones4u at the moment and nice cashback via top cashback too!
I placed my order this afternoon, it was promptly declined in a cppl of hours....I rang phones4u and was told I failed my credit check! !!!!!!! I have a spotless record...never missed a payment. I use a credit card which I pay off in full every month...I am so disappointed to hear I can't get the deal ...

I signed up for Experian...they say they need to do some further checks and hence will come back to me in 2days....

SOOO disappointed :(

Did you miss even a middle name or Ms instead of Miss on the credit application ?

    Possible....

My bank account has it as "miss"....I am married and I use mrs everywhere....

Would that actually fail my credit checks?

  • It could do I guess but it's pretty hard to tell with credit checks. I opened up a First Direct current account and got their gold credit card earlier this year despite not being on the electoral roll and have recently got an amex platinum cashback card with no problems. Applied to Santander for a current account (no overdraft) a few days ago and was turned down flat.

You could try appealing to phones4u and ask if it's possible to provide them with proof of income/address etc. I know people have done this for credit card applications and been successful and I'd have thought that this should be easier with a mobile contract. Ask and see what they say.

phones4u said it was Orange that declined my application....I called orange, they said get us your credit report from experian and we will appeal the decision....

I signed up for experian today....

you hope, but as others have said orange is really easy to get normaly. do you live in a new build or flat?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

The check would have showed miss/mrs confliction perhaps....I dont understand why woman dont use Ms, given Miss can be a personal security risk.

All the woman in my family use Ms for this very fact, anyhow your credit file will show Mrs & Miss as a confliction on the bank account, if the surname is different thats another confliction.

Simply pop to your bank with marriage certificate and ask it be changed to Ms xxxxx or Mrs xxxxx & ask them to do a manual update to your credit file of the change to reflect it on credit searches, if you explain why they should oblige such request. If they refuse such immediate update follow the banks Code of Conduct to make a official complaint.
