Should I sell my wedding dress???

I'm sure there are thousands of women just like me who got married some years ago (9) and keep their wedding dresses in the loft! Well, my wedding dress has just had another trip down the aisle making my foster sister look beautiful on her special day too.
She has just returned it (cleaned) and I just can't decide what to do with it. Whether to put it back in the loft or sell it. It is still fashoinable and I think I could get £150.00 for it which I could buy some jewelry with so that I have something special from it. I'm not desperate for the money, don't have any debt etc but I feel I want to do something with it rather than putting it back in the loft.
Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to cut it up for children to play in etc.
I did think of maybe trying to make a picture out of it but that would involve cutting it up too and I just can't bring myself to do it!
Thanks...looneyleo

Hi
There are lots of websites designed to sell wedding dresses. Have a search on Google, probably Ebay would be better if the dress is not very new.
Good luck

im a great believer in that if its not being used and never likely to be used again and you can still sell it then do so and turn it into something usefull, however wedding dresses are a little different and i can understand women wanting to hang onto to them because of fabulous memories etc but what can you really do with it now other than drag it out of the loft every 10 years or so to look at it
its great that your dress had another outing "down the aisle" and has been used again i bet she looked wonderfull!!
if it were me i would personally sell it whilst you still can as it has just been cleaned and use that money towards having a really special romantic kid free weekend away with hubby, pull out all the stops and have something to really remember and laugh about when you are old and doddery :rotfl: you only live once and im sure you have photo`s and memories of your special day to remind you, you dont need "stuff" shoved in the loft to remember. celebrate the fact that you are still in love and have made the marriage work and give hubby a weekend he`ll never forgetproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0 -
Mine is up in the loft in a big Ikea bog, along with my mums. I am a bit of a hoarder, but I couldnt bring myself to sell either of them (and I bet I could get a load for mums beautiful 1950's Ballerina length, white nottingham lace over a delicate pink underskirt (because she was preggers and they wouldnt let her have all white!!!!!). My daughter loves them both. She cant get into mums (looks equivelent of todays size 6).0

Thanks everyone.
angchris you've had me rolling with laughter with your response! Nine years in, 2 kids aged 4 & 2, running our own business and renovating a house....lets just say in terms of night-time activities;) ....the honeymoon period is over!!!
So going away for the weekend, just me and my beloved, would be a great little incentive to sell the dress for. We could go back to the fab Hotel we had our honeymoon night at and relive old memories! (Hmmm...as I remember, we were both knackered, the hotel had double booked the honeymoon suite - we were the unlucky couple - room service had finished but the porter offered to make us a cheese sandwich!!!!:rotfl: We did get another run at it though for free as a result of the double booking and that night was a lot better:rotfl: )
Thanks for your responses...will let you know when I make the decision!0 -
I still have my wedding dress, which I made and I've never even had it cleaned it still has grass stains on the hem!:o
I did wonder about selling it, but I too am a bit of a horder and senitmental about things like that so its still folded in one of my drawers!

I sold mine. It's not the sort of style that could be passed on. It was a fitted bodice, and due to the style it couldn't have been let in or our, or shortened. The chances of me having a daughter who would want to wear it, and be exactly the same build and height as me, must be millions to 1, so I decided to sell it.
The girl who bought it was absolutely thrilled with it, so I'm pleased the dress is making someone else as happy as I was on my wedding day.
We put the money towards decorating the baby's bedroom, as (s)he is the reason we got married. Hubby was desperate for a baby of his own, but I wasn't happy about falling pregnant out of wedlock (old fashioned idea I know!), so it seemed right to spend the money on baby. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I wore my mums wedding dress, on my christening day!!
She had part of the skirt made into a heirloom christening gown, which unfortunately then got lost, so only I ever got to wear it!I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I think that if you are thinking in terms of possibly selling it now & therefore not overly sentimental about it then you won't get any mroe so in the future, so sell it whilst you can get something worthwhile back for it. Personally I think I would prefer to put the morey towards a peice fo jewellery or something a bit more long-lasting than a weekend away but thats just my personal choice.

I sold mine and got the same amount of money back for it so was lucky, I sold because we needed the money to start our married life together etc, even if we had not I would have sold it because it was taking up a lot of space and would not be worn again.
You could take loads of photos of it or even a dvd film of you wearing it once last time and then sell it, the money always comes in handy0
