I'd love one for my tv, sky box etc. They are all on one plug which is impossible to reach without moving the whole tv unit. So on standby they have to stay.

This type of product was on Dragon's Den.

Any annual saving is far outstripped by cost of buying the switches.

This energy saving Green Agenda is turning into complete hysteria/madness.

why do appliances need a standby mode< either they are on or off
Because people are lazy & want to use Remote Controls from their sofa.

    That's the reality.
The Green Agenda is stupid hypocrisy.

If you want to check power consumption, following device from Maplin Electronics is very useful.
(this was the device they used to test the Standby Saver on Dragon's Den)

I bought it to check power consumption of heater in greenhouse.

Plug-In Mains Power & Energy Monitor
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=38343&criteria=power%20meter&doy=8m4

It was good because I could check power consumed & cost, instead of guessing.
Was quite expensive, but was surprised how useful it was.

I don't understand why people leave things on standby  All that needs to be left on is the fridge/freezer  It's just a waste of money leaving them on and it's highly dangerous.

I agree that switching things off is a good idea to save money, but why should leaving a product on standby be "highly dangerous"?

If a product has a feature that is a standby mode then why on earth would that be dangerous?

It cost £27 ! to save how much ? or perhaps I should say how little ! These things are as much a con trick as wind turbines and solar panels.

I am amazed at people's willingness to spend large sums of money to save pennies on their energy bills. The energy wasted and pollution caused by the manufacture of these things far outweighs their "green" usefulness.

isn`t it funny how people forget the old and disabled when they say things like that.

partners mum is disabled somenights she wants to go to bed early, but still watch a tv program, but might fall asleep during it, so puts it on 60min timer, after 60min off goes the tv to standby, or she`s watched the program, and wants to turn off the tv, but that will mean her having to get out of bed into the wheelchair, turn off the tv, phone my partner to go back home to put her to bed.....

on and i love the website that`s selling these switched package reads "save £38 a year by taking appliances out of standby" (3 pack version) and how much is the switch £34.49 inc.P&P a saving in the first year of £3.51p is it worth the hasstle?

My mums TV doesn't have an 'off' it's either on or on Standby. To turn it off she'd have to unplug it, to unplug it would also mean unplugging the video (or DVD recorder, i can't remember which). To unplug it all would mean having to reset the time on the Video / DVD Recorder incase she wants to record something.
