I am a prince2 trainer with projstudy and I have been guiding people to pass the Prince2 practitioner exam for some time now. To be able to clear the exam, you must have a good understanding of the fundamentals of prince2, the various exceptions and be able to relate to real time scenarios. I would advise to go through the case studies many times and check your speed so that you can manage your time properly. Also you should be able to check the relevant sections of the manual like the appendix A and C during the exam for ready reference. All the best guys!!

I have 15 years experience as a PM but have not done any PM work for the last 4 years. My work put me through PRINCE2 but it was an internal course with instructors coming to the office and I did not get a certificate - I passed but no certificate and I am not on the prince2 qualified database.
I would like my skills to be formally recognised and was thinking of doing the course but would I need to do both foundation and practitioner?
  • Dear concerned, it is very important to get the certificate and also list your name on the website as a proof that you have passed PRINCE2. You can contact apmg if you have the details from your human resource department. You may contact apmg at +44 (0) 1494 452450

Incase nothing works out then you must go through a course with an accredited ATO who will give you the certificate as well. You can get it reimbursed from your company.

  • I agree with Matt and a lot of people in forums: Do not pay for any training for the Prince2 foundation exam. All you need is in Google and for free: The Prince2 Foundation Training book is free online and in a pdf format and tons of exam questions are available online. It should just be enough.

I am not an English native person so I decided to pay for the online training course of the Knowledge academy. What a waste of money...
They require you to get the Prince 2 book from the OGC (free online). It is over 300 pages of indigestible chapters compared to the training book. But the worse was the waste of time of reading their 9 online chapters. Not written in plain English in my opinion. After few hours of studying I was not answering correctly to all the questions at the end of each chapter. The worse was that they refer you to the OGC book when you have incorrectly answered to a questions rather than providing a small paragraph of further details.

I felt ripped off and they now have put their price down.

If you are based abroad and want to take the exam remotely there is a hided fee of £60 which was not clear to me. I was told that their walks in clinics are not available anymore so be careful. The Global Live Sessions are being cancelled when there are not enough students. I waited 20 minutes while being registered to one of them.....

Last quick thing - Keep in mind of the potential confusion: people may jump to the conclusion that you are in IT when you are Prince2 certified.
  • First of all - full disclosure - I work for a PRINCE2 training organization.

The only people who know the exam pass rates for ALL the different training organizations are APMG. And they don't publish them.

If you are a PRINCE2 Accredited Training Organization, APMG will tell you the average pass rates and your own pass rate. They will not tell you the rates of your competitors. You get this in the form of a Excel sheet which lists all the training organizations by number, not name. APMG will say to you "you are number 16" or whatever. They won't tell you who the others area. It has always been this way.

So, if a training organization says "we have a 99% pass rate" they may, or may not, be telling the truth. Probably not. It's not like school league tables where you can look them up, you have no way of checking.

In practice, every training organization claims to be "above average" Of course, this cannot be true.

Which means that you should look at other factors when deciding where to do your training.

I recommend you look at ASPECT - Association for the Promotion of Excellence in Consultancy and Training. This is a group of premier league PRINCE2 training organizations who have committed to higher standards. Any of these providers are long established, good quality PRINCE2 training organizations. Again, full disclosure, my organization is a member of this group.

    Hope that is helpful
  • I would look at reviews for training providers before you book. Some seem really dodgy!! I was lucky with my course but some of my colleagues had really bad experiences. Be careful before you hand over the dollar!
