Halifax online saver.

I deposited some money in Halifax online saver just over one year ago, it matured 2 days ago but the interest has not been credited to the account.

I spoke to the helpline and they suggested I call back tomorrow and if is still is not credited they will try to sort it out manually.

Anyway it is supposed to pay 2.8% for the first 12 months and then 0.01%.

My question is, can I open another Halifax Online Saver account and transfer all the funds from the old Onlive Saver account?

Is that deemed as unethical?

    Yes.

Are you sure you asked for the interest to be credited to the account? When you apply for the account, they give you the option of having your interest sent elsewhere.

That is a good point pqrdef.

I do not remember the application process, it was definitely online but not sure if I allocated my current account for the interest to be paid to.

Anyway it has not been added to my current account and I do not have any other account with Halifax or other banks.

Mine matures next week, I'll be opening another account with the same £5K and keeping my fingers crossed !
You should have received a letter from them recently detailing the date your account matures and what happens on maturity?

    Yes I got the letter.

The interest is in the account this morning which is a relief.

I would prefer an account with Halifax that paid interest monthly rather than annualy.

Not in the least - you're free to shop around. Go for it!:)
  • My 'year' was up a few weeks ago, so I went online to Halifax and was able to open a new Online Saver account within a minute and then transfer funds from one to the other. I decided to leave £1 in the 'old' account (which I renamed as 'Past' - they both show up together online) as it already had people set up for transfers. I figured I could transfer back to it and then distribute money if I need to. How lazy is that? I know I could just set up everything again!

opinions4u, I did look at the fixed online saver and the interest is higher if you can leave it in there but I am using it to live off at the moment so I do transfer money from it to my current account.
    I should have mentioned that.

Justlikethat, I did the same thing, opened a new online saver and transferred it all over to the new one.

I was told on the telephone that if I wanted to close the old account I needed to write to,

This is true I did this last week. I have two accounts I look after and when interest rate drops I just open a new account and transfer money into it after a year is up
