    If it's new, I'd restore it to factory settings and start again, Ctrl F11 at boot.

  • albertross ... what will i lose by "restoring to factory settings " ... i've loaded all the antivirus etc .. and autoroute..office...tomtom .. etc .

    you'll lose anything you've changed since delivery, so all of the above.

    The other alternative is to do a system restore (rstrui) to a point before the problem started. This may retain some of your installations, depending on how far you go back, and it shouldn't touch your data.

    It can also be software, I got a new bit-torrent client and had the same problem, got rid of the new software, problem went too.

    Is there anything you installed prior to the problem starting? Can you roll back?
