the BSOD - Blue Screen of Death -

Goto Windows update and select custom not express - look on the left of the screen when you get the results - see if there are any hardware updates available. Select them - install etc and reboot - get any critical as well just in case.

If no hardware updates have a look on Dells website for updated drivers.
    Alternative -
    goto device manager right "My Computer" 2000/XP select Manage;
W98 select Properties. Device manager Button on one of the tabs.
Find your USB devices in the tree
    Disable and/or unload drivers -
Reboot let Windows re-install if unloaded alt re-enable then load new drivers.

    HTH

If Vista - may have to wait till new drivers arrive ! but try 2000/XP solutions above

Express updates will only do critical - not the optional updates !

Right click over "my computer" icon on desktop select manage -for device manager look under the system tools tree.

Well as long as you always look at the hardware optional updates, on the left...

Deleting all of them may work, if you cannot identify your mains hub.

But try to identify the mains usb hub by plugging something into it, look for power being drawn, disconnect and look for a change. Try to roll back the driver, if not possible, try to update - from the mains usb hub manufacturer's web site.
If the above not possible - remove the driver. reboot the laptop and allow windows to re-install the driver.

  • probably a totally differrent problem now ....

happened once each of last 2 days

just whilst surfing ... everything completely "freezes" ... mouse won't move .. can't "escape" ... no key does anything .... only solution os "on/off" switch .

    any ideas ?
