Sorry if this is a silly question - how does 1 hour 10 mins of UK streaming end up costing £500? I didn't think this would be possible!
    6Mbps/8*60s*70m=3150Mb=3.15Gb
... i was told that i have used 3GB above my allowance
  • I argued with Orange CS today to send me an itemization showing what i have browsed and they refused. Max help that they can do from their side is to wave off 80% of my data usage(which is £600 for 2 months). And i have to pay £120+vat.

Is there any law about data capping. when i asked them what capping i should have on my business account by default - i was told 10p/mb above data allowance and is capped on £300/month. when i asked about £1/day capping rule then they said they can put £5 per 250mb. But this cat be reflected in back bills.

Now my point is if there is a capping options - shouldn't it had applied to my account by default. Do i have to request for that? How would i know that there are such options?

sounds like a good offer if you are in fact responsible for the excess usage.
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...
  • That's what the issue is. I dont believe that i have used 3GB data when i don't watch videos. i normally use chatting app(whats app) when i am not on my wi-fi. Mostly i am on wi-fi at home and at work.

I would complain to the ombudsman. I think it's not right that a network can charge you without giving any information what exactly the charges are for.

Hi saggie_annie, not sure if I will be of any help, but I recently had a similar issue, I have a bill for just over £300 due to "data usage". I asked for a breakdown and they sent me all the dates and times it was used and most of it was when I was asleep. When I told them this they told me the data information "wasn't completely accurate!" What?!?!?!

Following advice from a post on here I have now written to: Data Protection Officer, EE Limited, Law Enforcement Liaison and Disclosures, 800 Park Avenue, Aztec West, Bristol, BS32 4TR and requested a complete breakdown of what the data was used for. Orange were very difficult and told me there weren't sure if I would be able to get the information, but how can they charge you for something and not tell you what it has been used for? I only sent the letter off on Saturday so I will let you know how I get on and please keep me updated how you get on. We might be able to help each other out here.

I have also complained to CISAS about Orange and went to the BBC about it. If you search on the web there is a lot of information about the same thing happening to loads of people.

I am a business user too by the way!! Good luck and keep me updated.

There is no law or rules that say you must be capped for UK use, it's down to individual companies to offer any solution. The £300 is most likely a credit limit on your account, but not a hard stop, if you hit the £300 they may call for payment but are not required to stop your use.

There is a £40 cap if you are in the EU, but that can be overridden if you have bought any data roaming bundles.

Outside the EU Don't even think about using Data...
