Over 70. Can I get money back to install loft insulation?
Does anyone know which company will give me the most money to have loft insulation done?
I've looked on the main guide on MSE which suggests that there are good offers but when you read the eligibility criteria it seems that you require pension credit for all of them which I don't get. My income is less than £16,190.

I read that as they want paying to have it done e.g.
Some EDF Energy customers can qualify for a prepaid Visa card worth up to £100. Provided you meet the eligibility criteria below, you’ll receive £50 for each insulation measure you take. So you could pocket £100 if you take both loft and cavity wall insulation with us. As with our free insulation, there’s no catch. It’s just our way of saying thank you for taking up our offer.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. You / or / your partner, many people don't realise that only one of a couple needs to be 70+. The only condition to you receiving the 100% home insulation grants is that your home :
- needs the work
- and that the work can be done
- basically less than 60mm already in the loft
- cavity walls not be already insulated and be accessible
The answer to your question is YES but all grants from all sources are paid for by government. Each April a budget is made when it runs out of money the greant runs out til the next allocation. Put simply choose a company to do the work and make an on-line application, if they have no money left try someone who has.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Have you checked your local council? Many offer similar schemes.
The energy saving trust is also a useful resource.0 -
Just had my loft insulation topped up to 200mm for nothing via Vale of Glamorgan Council grant, not dependent on my income or anything else as far as I'm aware!
Would have done cavity wall insulation as well but there were access issues which I would have had to solve at my expense - and the short term cost would have meant a multi year pay back.
Can't be dependent on age either because my neighbour who is in his 40s , has had his house done completely for free.
EDIT - Surveyor who did the initial visit said that grant applications had to be in by early December for free installs.0 -
Government fines any companies for not hitting their target of free insulation installs....they are fighting tooth and nail to give it away.0

No company will 'give you money' to have it done. They will survey and install FOC and claim the money back. The work must be carried out by a registered installer. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Surprisingly, it appears that in some circumstances you can also get up to £200 cash:No company will 'give you money' to have it done.

This is the sort of thing I am looking for. Despite the title on the MSE guide it seems like you only get the money if you are on certains benefits. Does any company pay the customer to take insulation if they are over 70?0
