I got the owl because i thought if the meter was running faulty the owl would show up a big difference in figures? Would i be right in thinking thats true?

"On the face of it" the meter is faulty (if that is what you are being billed between two supplier actual reads).

You never did need an Owl to prove the meter was "faulty". You need to do a load test with a known load (which is what the supplier will do if you allege the meter is faulty) to give you the confidence to formally request (i.e. demand ) that of the supplier.

    This is correct.
    First port of call.
Check meter at 24 hour intervals.
Does OWL indicate approximately the same kWh for the whole day.

If it does, it's not likely to be the meter.
You mentioned '2.8kW' with just a few extra loads on.
The loads you mention might add 400W to your earlier figure, but you've still got 2kW or so 'missing'.

Im not too sure how the washing machine works but i guess it heats up the water first of all, machine still on but owl now reading 1.01 so i guess it went high when first switched on.

Owl has been on since 1.30 this afternoon, and just checked reaings and they are matching against main meter .
3.3 units used in 3 and a half hours of the house being idle.

    Are 2 freezers essential?

Things that cool or heat use most electricity, routers and phones are tiny in comparison

Was the TV/set top box on during your tests?

but do you need to run 2, or are you filling them up for the sake of it? One chest freezer should keep you going for a couple of months, if you go to the shops more frequently than that anyway, do you need them both? Big TV's can use a couple hundred watts, or more.

In the grand scheme of things having an extra freezer i dont think is the problem. I have put the plug in device on the garage freezer, its not a massive one and will see tomorrow what that is.

We do have large tvs but to be honest they are not on that much but they are on standby.
  • Freezers don't use a lot of electricity, at least mine doesn't, max 350 kWh a year if that.

Just because a kettle has a 3kWh element doesn't mean it uses a lot of electricity.

I have a plug in monitor and my kettle only uses 1.5 kWh a day.
