but you do not have to tell the JC you have a job particaully I hear if you are on the work programme or all sorts of hassle will start. You do however have to tell them you want the grant but to get it they have to tell you where you are going to work,Torry_Quine wrote: »I meant that when you sign off as you have a job then you get it.0 -
Really? How the hell do the long term unepmployed manage when they do get a job? £100 wont get far in somewhere like London when travel 1-4 zones on the tube is £160 a month and no one likes a new employee who asks for a sub within days of joining the company. How do you live for a month with no £ as JSA is paid in arrears.evolution200 wrote: »But not for much longer unfortunately. Yet another cut that's being made.0 -
Tell me about it.... I'm about to come off ESA after a year. Start work on Monday and know I'm going to struggle until my first pay day. Luckily, I'll get the job grant.
It's due to end from 1 April 2013.
In Work Credit and Return to Work Credit are also ending next year.
In my case, I won't be eligible for the Return to Work Credit because I'll be earning over 15K a year. But I know that for people earning under that, the £40 a week payment for 52 weeks could be a deciding factor on whether to return to work or not.
Let's face it, this government are cutting absolutely anything they can from the welfare budget. It's an easy target, because they just play on the "we're getting the work shy system fiddlers back into work" card, and no one seems to be worried about how people are going to actually survive.

Given the amount, I assume you're under 25?
You'll receive your final JSA payment on the last day you are unemployed.
But payment can be advanced, ie 'say' you are due to sign Thursday 20th Sep 2012, but you're due to start work on Wed 3rd Oct? You'd just sign on and off on the same day: Thur 20th Sep. You'd then receive 2 separate payments - one for the fortnight in arrears the following Tuesday and the final 12 days' worth on 02.10.12.
£100 Job Grant should be requested - you may just have to sign a form and they'll ask for the employer's name/self-employed.
Housing & Council Tax Benefit roll on for 4 weeks also if applicable - ie, not if you live at home with parents. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

If HB and CTB rolls on then why not anyother payment? After all I guess they are letting you have one months more HB etc as you will have no money normally in a job for a month, but what do you live on? It's a joke really and I hope to god (if there is one) I get a job soon as even the £100 will just about get me to work for 2 weeks when I do.0 -
I take your point; but, of course, mainly for HMRC purposes, you couldn't be unemployed and in receipt of JSA and at the same time be employed on your enmployer paying NI contributions for the same period you're being credited them.
The Flexible Support Fund can pay travel costs for the first month eg a rail pass. Apply to your local JobCentre or your WP provider if on the Work Programme. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. I haven't been part of the job hunting scene for way longer than two years, which is why I haven't heard of it.0 -

Well I had never heard of it till a friend told me but I know years ago you had to apply for an emergency loan and and old friend of mine did once. You had to fill in a form and say what you wanted etc so they put 4 weeks jsa to live on and a months travel (this was ll to be paid back) and they were offered £40 and told 'take it or leave it'. This was when the DSS was sepereate to the jc.sharpy2010 wrote: »I haven't been part of the job hunting scene for way longer than two years, which is why I haven't heard of it.0 -
Is there any information you were given with your booklet ?
Was it not explained to you about how to sign off ?
Should have been explained to you, I was given a local number to call to close the claim.0
