'signing off'?

hi, first post from me, and it's a question. i'm going to be starting a job next week, working for a mate - he has his own painting and decorating company and is going to employ me. i've been mithering him for years, but he was happy with the employers he had, until recently one of the lads fancied a career change and has now gone to university.

so, long story short, and after a 'days trial', i've got the job. so, to my question. i've been claiming job seekers allowance for exactly twelve months now, and am just wondering what the process is with regards 'signing off'? also, what happens with my last payment from jsa? i currently receive £94.50 every two weeks, so, if i sign off this week, will i receive half of that fee?

any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Well done on finding paid employment, you must be very pleased :-)

I don't know about the jsa cash, I would assume that you'll get paid for the number of days due, up until the point you signed off.

If I was you I'd give the job centre a buzz tomorrow and they'll clear it up for you.

    Well done again!

When you ring them in the morning, enquire about a Job Grant, which is a one off payment of £100 if you qualify.

I've never heard of it either, but new things are being introduced all the time, and if it turns out you (Dan_S) are eligible, then thats an extra bonus!

Yes you get JSA up till the day you sign off to start the job. The job grant is given automatically.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

No you have to tell the JC you are starting a job before you get it. Signing off alone does not mean you will get it.

I meant that when you sign off as you have a job then you get it.

But not for much longer unfortunately. Yet another cut that's being made.
