All sound to be very similar figures and dates between us, give or take a bit. Thanks for your reply, good to know how others see the future panning out. We don't have the horrific childcare costs so many suffer due to my partner being able to be a stay at home mom. There's obviously good and bad points to this, I won't go trying to say one is better than the other here. We both like it this way but the earning is down to the one of us. !

I would love to be at home with children - ideally I would like to work 3 days a week, but I don't think this will happen. I am luckly that my parents help out with the children 2 days a week and my Mother in law one day - so the rest of the time the children are in school/nursery/after school club. Whilst DH has always worked, I am the main breadwinner earning a lot more than him so I don't have an option to cut my hours. But, as long as the bills are paid and we have a roof over our heads - I don't mind :).
Don't go mad on the cars side of things! I downgraded my cars to the point of not owning a car at all but running with two vans put through my accounts. Admittedly, I do have a nice new Transporter that will serve me for many years to come.

I always give myself targets as it sets the goal in my mind as to what to aim for. Even if it won't be reached, then I take it as being something to push me as much as possible.

Good news on the other halves increased earnings, long may it continue. Best of luck with your mortgage journey!

Don't talk about Transporter Vans! DH is a downhill mountain biker and he has been on at me for quite a while, how he needs this van, will be so useful when he is biking etc :rotfl:. He would buy one of these if he had a chance. I won't buy a brand new car - but will probably buy one a few years old. I tend to drive around 350 miles a week, so need another Diesel.
  • Haha, bet your sick of hearing about TRANSPORTER VANS!!!! I agree with hubby, it would be the perfect vehicle for his bikes. You couldn't deny him that! Could you?

My partner and I are going to the first VW camping weekend of the year this weekend. Called Dubfreeze for obvious reasons! The kids will be at grannies for two nights!!!!! We will be doing a lot of cheap camping holidays over the years in this van. See, it saves holiday money, another good reason to get one! Am I helping much here? :rotfl:

No, you're not helping :rotfl:! I won't deny him a Transporter van if that is what he wants - as long as it has seats in the back and can be used for family days out - not just for biking!
  • Haha, I did think about my 'help' for you. They're great family vehicles, we put the rear seat in and had side windows fitted. That was my partners wish, to be able to use it for family time. Hope it happens for you, one day.

Happy Valentines day everyone. Homemade pizza and Prosecco now! Yum.

  • Hi everyone.

Had a great weekend just gone. Went up to Stafford Showground for a VW camping event called Dubfreeze. It was awesome. Quite a MS weekend as all we spent was on diesel and a couple of bits once there. Took a firepit and wood cut from work. We cooked mini pizzas in the hot embers of the fire and had Tiger beer. Was a great sat evening. A bit cold overnight outside but we were fine in the van. The grass was frosty in the morning but we didn't mind at all.

It breaks up the routine of working to have little breaks away. I've already asked about looking for more shows and events to put on the diary. Quiet weekends in Cornwall will feature well this year as well.

Sounds great Matt - can you recommend any parts of Cornwall? Mrs E and I will hopefully have passed our driving tests this summer and Cornwall has been on our 'nice if we could drive' list for ages.
  • Sorry Edin, I missed seeing your post and question. You can't go too far wrong with most of Cornwall. We like the small coastal towns and villages on the north coast and Bodmin moor is awesome for a quiet walk in the middle of nowhere. Best of luck with the driving.

A little more progress with OP's today. If I can get to the bank quick enough after work, I'll be able to pay some in. My partner has given me a cheque to pay in from her account for £500. I've received a rebate on my last bill from British Gas, £124. That can go in. The Santander cashback is in now, rounded up to £15. I'm sure I can find a little more to put a round number in. I'll update later, hopefully will be able to have £8k in OP's since starting this adventure.

  • I made it to the bank in time. In total, I managed to OP £660 including what I listed in the above post. Pleased with that, I didn't think I could pay any extra this month.

I'm going to up my direct debit next month. This increase should take care of the savings made in having cheaper bills. I've not cancelled Sky as they offered me half price everything including Sports. Saves me going to the pub to see the games. It now costs £9 a month less with Sports added. Pleased.

    Great overpayment Matt :).
  • Thank you Sweetdaisy, I'm very pleased obviously.

I've done some extra work again this week, so once I get paid in a couple of weeks time, hopefully I'm going to be able to put another dollop of OP into the savings pot.
