  • Hi Pavlovs, happy new year to you also.

Well I did think of a target at the beginning of this. I think I far exceeded that! I planned on £500 a month, making £6,000 for the year. As I'm nearly to that already, I should make a new yearly target. £10,000 sounds nice and should challenge me sufficiently. I need challenges to push me to progress.

Go for what those of us who work in boring offices call a 'stretch target' - difficult, but achievable if you push yourself :D
  • I reckon £10k would be a nice push target as I won't be able to put any good lump sums in now. Just the regular monthly bits and bobs going in. If I'm getting close, I could always revise the target. Before starting this, I could never think about saving these sort of amounts. I'm not a natural saver, its a good job my partner is!

Happy New Year Matt and good luck with your new £10,000 target.
  • Hey, you're one of the people that inspired me to do this. In fact, I think yours was the first diary I read. Keep going, you need a big target, like the £10k one, but maybe some little ones with rewards planned too.

So, say go out for a nice meal after the first £2.5k, or whatever you enjoy.

Don't worry, there won't be any giving up in this sunny little corner of the world, after reading todays helpful posts, I'm ready to kick on and get earning as much as poss! Then to overpay as much as poss. Watch this space over the next few months, I'm going to try and surprise myself.

Love to all of you! (had a few beers tonight!)

  • Yay, its the 10th of the month. Which means the direct debit has gone out today, meaning £244 OP'd! Very happy about that and also managed to put in another £100 from my wages so far this month.

Still owing the money I've taken back from the savings pot but waiting for my tax rebate for most of this. I'm also doing extra work to normal, so once I get paid for that, I'll add as much of it as I can to the pot.

2 days off at the end of this week due to no fault of my own (no materials ordered for site! Grrr!) but making up for it with working on sat morning and monday evening after the dayjob. Have to say this year has started out awesome (last year, didn't start back to work til mid feb!). One of my new years resolutions was to be as busy as possible for work but also to be earning to my potential. No good working yourself silly and earning next to nothing for it! So, the first week of the year is good, only 51 to go to be as good and I'm rocking!

Cheers for taking the time to be interested in my ramblings!

Sounds like a brilliant start to 2013 Matt :).
  • Thanks Sweetdaisy, I just need to get my self into gear and payback the £4500 as soon as possible. Once that is done, the extra money can be applied to the account.

I think I'm going to be living close to the wire this year as I put all available spare cash into the Offset account. Its not too much of a drama as it only takes a day to retrieve the money if needed.

  • Just a quicky little OP today. A whole £15 that equals what Santander gave me as their cashback on my account. Might as well put it into the mortgage each month. Well it makes it £180 per year I don't have to find. Next month, my gas and elec changes company. So I'll OP the £16 reduction in the direct debit also. Combined it would make two thirds of a monthly mortgage payment over the course of a year. Leaving it in my account, I'd never see any difference at all by the end of the year.

Just waiting for the first of my pay from extra work to hit my account, all of this will go towards the £4,500 I need to repay to catch up.

    Thanks everyone.
