is it possible to have text only version of the site? with no images/smiley faces/big formatting blocks, just posts in the form of
the user name;
date;
post;
then a reply underneath in the same format.
most of the pages are full of signatures, links, flashing buttons and formatting, with some information padded out with lots of the above.
i have seen text only versions of forums. usually when its an archive version of the site

There is an Archive link at the bottom of the page.
Or you could disable signatures, avatars and images in Edit Options

If you go to your User CP which is at the top of the page, you will see on the control panel Edit Options. Scroll down and you'll see Thread Display Options, or something like that. You can change things there.
