paypal dispute

I purchased a faulty item which was advertised as working. So I started a dispute on PayPal. I was told to send the item recorded and I did by special delivery. But it says it was not delivered as nobody was in. Will PayPal still refund me if the seller refuses to pick up the item? Where will their item go to? I moved and did not write my address on the back of the parcel as I didn't want the seller to know where I live because he was threatening me. Any help appreciated.

yes you will get a refund, if you have not done so already upload the tracking number. If you have then give paypal a quick ring and point out delivery has been attempted and they should close the case in your favour.S.P.C member 1662 - target £3000

Thanks for your response.
Do you know what happens to the parcel if he doesn't pick it up? Am I still responsible for it?0 -
paypal will refund once item is delivered and there is a signature....however if the seller isn't picking it up then they may still refund you but there is no guarantee. I would contact RM and let them know you sent the item so that they can get it back to you. If paypal decide not to refund you because item hasn't been delivered then you would want the item back.
I returned something to china and delivery wasn't proved so paypal refused to refund. Item was returned to me a month later because seller didn't sign for it
You say seller threatened you, i presume it was via ebay emails....in which case report him to ebay...they will see the proof.0 -

Thanks for your response. If PayPal does however refund me and the seller fails to collect will I be in some kind of trouble for not providing my address? Or can I just leave it with the seller now since he's got a sorry you were out card (which the royal mail tracking says).0 -
As far as I know you wouldn't be in trouble. If the seller has been left a card I would wait a couple of days. I don't always go straight away to the PO if i recieve an attempted delivery card. Give it a couple of days. If item is still showing as not delivered them contact RM.....keep your receipt....it has the tracking number on it so you can prove you sent it even though your address isn't on it.0

This is a return so OP will get their refund purely by showing PayPal that attempted delivery has been made. Seller will be forced to refund, and if they don't collect the parcel it will be returned to OP at which point OP can do what they like with it basically.
Post 2 is correct.
Edit; if the package doesn't have a return address (which seems odd) then it will probably just end up in limbo. Thanks for confirming. I know its odd and under other circumstances I have always put my address on a special delivery parcel. This time however I chickened out because of the threats of the seller showing up where I live. I just want this to be over and don't want anything to do with this person or his item. If it's left in limbo then so be it as long as its no longer my responsibility.0 -
Edit to add: don't all returns need to be sent by special delivery as other methods don't always show that the item has been delivered?0

Slightly odd logic considering they would have your address anyway to send you the item in the first place.
Fingers crossed that you get it sorted though.0 -

If you are returning & you want a signature (for higher value) then special delivery is the only way, unless using a courier.0
