Hi
reading a couple of threads on here thought I would give my experiences and thoughts on these cowboys...
Had an MBNA card and balance went up to somewhere in region of 6800...all of a sudden without warning they lowered my credit limit...then for the next 5 months I was stuck in a viscious circle of £30 over limit charges...huge interest and paying minimum balance (only £10 more than interest!!) Eventually I rang them in a hope they would lower the interest on the debt to help me lower balance...basically was told this wouldn't even happen even though I had never missed a payment or sent any late!!!
Tonight after receiving 4 text msg asking if I had received my new card decided to phone and say I had but it was already cut up and in the bin:j :j
Anyways she goes through all this and says...oh have you got a problem with the service we offer....A PROBLEM?????   Well I let rip about the problems I had with their service and lack of flexibility...also said she was getting shortened version as I was putting it in a letter when I settle the account (thanks to my late nana's inheritance!). She then said well your account now says you can apply for a low rate loan...almost snorted my diet pepsi down the phone....NO THANK YOU MBNA
Well that feels better....:D
to get that off my rather ample chest lol!
Anyone else had rubbish experiences with MBNA???

Claim every single one of those charges back plus interest. I'm not a great fan or reclaiming charges BUT in your situation the fault was NOT yours, they pulled a fast one on you so why should you be even more out of pocket.
I'm so glad to read that you managed to get rid of MBNA, I wish I couldI will never ever give them a penny more of my money than I need to and never ever have any form of credit from them again once they are paid off.

Hi, brilliant, sorry not a personal dig but they did the same to me last September and charged me an extra £1200 interest and over limit charges. they have just stopped interest but have started writing little notes of concern on the bottom of my statement - the last one being 'Time is running out'
for who? I wish there was some law against their behaviour.0 -
Hi
think I will be putting that in the letter....see what happens...know what you mean tho...my mum had probs with them! Took them years to get away from them...through payplan...recently they been sending them offers to get credit off them?????

Hi sharon
It seems popular to hate MBNA at the moment, although everyone will have had some kind of a deal off them at some point, or at least they'd be most unusual if they hadn't!
Slightly intrigued by this though:Hi

The implication is they trapped you into paying pnalty charges by lowering your limit, presumably to just above the balance and then lumping on the interest taking you over the limit. Really? Nasty if true but I can't quite believe it, and in fact particularly not of MBNA.
You also say 'balance went up to somewhere in region of 6800' like it just happened without your knowledge. Well taht's definitely not true.
The other thing I don't understand is your comment about making minimum payment (if I understood right). Well having a higher credit limit wouldn't increase your ability to pay. Perhaps MBNA did you a favour lowering your limit?0 -
Feel slightly annoyed by your response...do it yourself...is it not courtesy to advise customer that you are lowering the credit limit so that said customer is prepared for it....Perhaps not in your world...once again a person who would rather pass judgement...I got myself to 6800 no1 else...it didn't happen just one day...unfortunately loads of misguided purchases and then only paying minimum amounts...
This site is for support and advice, not judgement

MBNA never informed me that they were lowering the limit and acted all innocent when I contacted them but still continued to add additional charges. How did they do me a favour by increasing debt? Supporting you topsy0
