I keep absolutely everything in the fridge, the only exception is marmite (hard to spread) and honey. It's a throwback to when we lived in a warmer climate, I think. But we have plenty of fridge space. Faced with going back to an ordinary f/freezer when we move, I've decided to go for a side-by-side, so we still have room for everything. Also, it's easier to find things in a fridge than in an ordinary cupboard. I might not bother if I had a proper pantry.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I put mayo in the fridge and everything else in the cupboard.
OH puts everything in the fridge.
I did have some tapas veggies in oil go nasty last week though, so if I buy them again they will go in the fridge.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
I keep mayo and salad dressing in the fridge - the rest in the pantry
I've found an existing thread asking the same question, so I'll merge them to keep ideas together

I only keep mayo in the fridge, however, at the moment I also have a couple of jams as I am running out of space in the larder!0

Now that it has been in there does it have to stay there or can I take it out? I stupidly started keeping all my jam and chutney in the fridge before I knew they didn't need to be. Now I know they don't need to be I want to take them out. Will they be okay?0

Unopened jars can be stored in a cool place without any problem.
Opened jars ideally should be stored in a fridge but I've never kept chutney in the fridge and have never had mould develop on it!

Oh-I was told not to keep jam in the fridge either. So let me get this right.
Jams (when open) keep in the fridge
Chutney no need to keep in the fridge (even if it has been kept in the fridge perviously)
Correct?0 -
As a rule I keep unopened jars in the cupboard and opened ones in the fridge. It depends on how long it takes to use a jar I suppose!

It takes us up to 6 weeks to use a jar of HM jam or chutney so I keep opened ones in the fridge but I know when we were kids we just kept opened jam in a cupboard and on the rare occasion it went mouldy we threw it away.0

I'm just wondering what the Victorians did with their jams and chutneys.0
