MP Nick Smith has introduced a ten-minute-rule bill in Parliament today, "Signage and Ticketing Technology in Publicly-Available Car Parks", which apparently seeks to make the signage requirements statutory.

Ahaaa. I'ver got it now Bazster. Most of the above commentary needs to be removed because of this. I hope if you read the quote back to yourself you'll see there is some ambiguity.

    1) Make the signage requirements statutory - sort out the signs for clarity.
    2) Make the signage requirements statutory - make the requirements of the signage (ie. YOU must PAY) statutory (ie. enshrined in law codes).

Thankfully it was No.1 and not No.2

    All the best!

No worries. The wording of the motion certainly doesn't give many clues as to its thrust, and I at least had the benefit of hearing Mr. Smith on the radio. Now you've pointed it out I see that my description of his point was wide open to misinterpretation, so I apologise for misleading you.

  • Ooh! Don't apologise for misleading the community. Aplogise for taking HOURS TO GET BACK and having us worried!!! :rotfl:

No problem Bazster, you have your life and duties, we all do. I must admit, I also listen to Radio 4 + World Service and am familiar with You and Yours. That's one of the live broadcasts as it allows callers to phone in and speak, one of the few non-recorded segments on that station. I could easily retrieve the podcast - I was too late today to catch the programme but I'll take your word for what was said. I've checked the schedule for tomorrow in the Council Chamber and he is definitely on for this talk. Let us who wrongly accused him of feathering dirty sponsors retract our remarks and wish him luck - even if he is just a humble servant of the people! ;)

Firstly, Nick Smith's Ten Minute Rule Bill has all the chances of a snowball in hell in surviving the Parliamentary process. More's the pity.

Nick's motivation comes from Martin Cutt's and the Plain Language Commission's campaign against misleading signage. To suggest that Nick Smith is "anti" would be to do him a serious disservice and as far as Parliament is concerned it's small steps.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
