    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.
  • Not that informative really and same rubbish spouted by Patrick Troy

  • Hmm... no attempt by the interviewer to discuss anything other than clear signage. An opportunity missed...

OK, not that exciting. MP Nick Smith has introduced a ten-minute-rule bill in Parliament today, "Signage and Ticketing Technology in Publicly-Available Car Parks", which apparently seeks to make the signage requirements statutory.

Which is all very well as far as it goes I guess, but unless signs carry a statutory message "These Charges are Unenforceable", they will still be misleading.

Smith did however get to mention that the BPA is a private members' club which isn't doing enough and can't be left to get its own house in order, and Troy got to smarm and slime a bit.

Here's the text of the motion, such as it is:

"That leave be given to bring in a Bill to make provision relating to signage and ticketing technology for parking charges used in publicly-available car parks; and for connected purposes."

  • Your Mr. Smith, will have to uproot the principles of Contract Law including those that were injected into the system over the years precisely to prevent cowboy businesses from getting rich out of victimisation.

Once he has done this, you can introduce your own terms and conditions, such as by writing to me again, you are agreeing to pay £900.
  • I think Smith's proposal with be tomorrow sometime in Main Chamber in Commons. I'm confident there will be opposition, so much has gone into creating these laws. With their blemished history of harassment and false representation, I hardly think that an end to clamping and people's sudden awareness of PPC deception will be the ideal springboard for one pathetic creten to stand up and say, "landowners over motorists can claim an exception to existing laws".

How much money do you think the BPA are sending Mr Smith's way?

RIGHT!!! No doubt he is being sponsored. Have no fears. According to my dad who is 71 and very much in league with current affairs, these proposals rarely go through. He has seen so many fiascos in Commons and Lords. No doubt there will be a wealth of opposition to Smith but hopefully he'll have no fellow support.

Some misunderstanding surely? Smith is on "our" side in trying to get legally-enforceable clear signage. My only beef is that he doesn't go far enough.
