By using thetrainline you have been ripped off.
Use a site that does not charge a booking fee. I don't think any Train Operating Company (TOC) sites charge booking fee (I'm happy to be corrected on that.) and you do not not need to use the site of the company that run the trains on the route you are using.
The TOC tickets were £7.50 each way I got one way £5 and return £7.50 with a £1 booking fee on thetrainline.com.0 -

Just go onto the national rail website and do a search. Do NOT tick fast trains only as most of the slow ones are the cheapest. Always book a few days in advance.0
