Hello, I need help booking train tickets online so I can see my girlfriend at her uni but I have never booked tickets before and feel I will be ripped off. I am going from London Victoria to Falmer in Brighton. If someone has some spare time could you help me find a good site or a way to get them cheaper please?

Leaving on Saturday around 11am returning sunday around 10pm.

Thanks if you can help.

I always use Trainline.com. I travel from manchester to london alot and always managed to grab a bargain.
Just a thought as well, if you are a student you will also be able to use your student card.

    Trainline.com charges a booking fee.

Book direct with the operator, such as www.southernrailway.com, the tickets should be the same price but no booking Fee.

Also, you can't use you student card, you need a 16-25 railcard that costs £28 per year to give 1/3 off travel.
  • Outbound there are loads of Advance fares at £10. Advance fares are valid on booked train only.

Coming back, I don't see any Advance later in the day, a SUPP OFFPK DAY S at £12.90 is valid on most services (NOT Gatwick Express).

Those are all London Vic - Falmer changing as appropriate.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

    Book on Southern Railway.
On there you will find that Advance Singles are available at £10.00 for you outward journey (or £7.50 a little earlier or later), and £7.50 for the return leg.

With Advance Singles you must travel on the booked trains.

The OP wants a 10pm return, not a 10am. Advances seem to have sold out already for later in the day.

Yes, I am aware of that.
Advances seem to have sold out already for later in the day.
And looking now, 13:00, I can see an Advance Single from Falmer to Victoria at 21:25 for £5.00.
But if that's too early, an Advance Single on a 22:26 Falmer departure is still available at £7.50.

Info from the website I linked to earlier.

OP, if you want these tickets then book them quickly.

Trainline.com is a list of tour dates for band called Train, in fact.

thetrainline.com is a ticket booking site which, as you point out, charges a booking fee.

Personally, I've been using redspottedhanky.com which is good because you earn points each time, which can be redeemed against future journeys.
  • I booked with thetrainline.com tickets cost me £12.50 with £1 booking fee which is still under half the price I was finding before. Thank you all for your help

Pity, as suggested in post 3, with Southern, the Saturday morning trains are £5, £7.50 & £10, depending on the time. Sunday evening £12.90 (40p more, but no booking fee)

    .

By using thetrainline you have been ripped off.
Use a site that does not charge a booking fee. I don't think any Train Operating Company (TOC) sites charge booking fee (I'm happy to be corrected on that.) and you do not not need to use the site of the company that run the trains on the route you are using.
