    Hi Wanna,

I also had to go to the OR office for my interview, and can assure you that whilst it can be a bit long-winded, there really is nothing to worry about.
About 2 weeks before my interview, the OR sent me a form, a bit like the form you fill in when you file for BR. Basically, the interview was based around this form - question by question, with the OR filling in any blank or incomplete answers on a separate piece of paper, which will form a 'statement' that you will need to sign at the end of the interview. You should be given a copy of this.
The OR can impose an IPO/IPA at the interview.
You should have received a letter, detailing what the OR needs you to bring - this will include Bank Statements, cheque and paying in books, sometimes copies of recent utility bills etc. Don't worry if you haven't got everything - the OR will be able to get missing statements from your bank.
The OR should make you feel at ease and should also point out that if, at any time during the interview, you need a break, or a drink, you should ask.
The prospect of the interview is often more daunting than the actual interview.
Hope it goes well for you.

  • Thanks for that - as you say it does sound daunting but I have got all the necessary paperwork they have asked for except the credit card statements - only got the letters they have sent me stating how much I now owe as interest has been added on since I was declared bankrupt on the 21st March.

I have filled in the booklet as best I can but they will no doubt help me fill in the bits I have missed off.

Once you have seen the OR do you hear anything further from them? What happens if they want to take monies off you from your wages? Do they take them directly from your wages? I will have approx £170 spare after my expenditures are taken out but sometimes my expenditure could change from month to month so not sure how I stand there it is like you say very daunting.

How long did your interview last? They told me it should be about 2 - 3 hours

That's about right - mine lasted 3 and a half hours.

The OR will tell you if they are appointing a trustee, in which case your future dealings will be with the trustee, otherwise the OR will handle your case throughout the BR period.
Don't forget to take the opportunity to ask about ANYTHING relating to your bankruptcy about which you are unsure.

    Hi wannabee,

    All the best for tomorrow,

You will hear from the O.R if there are any questions that arise during the course of their work but from our experience they're few and far between.

With regard to taking monies from your wages (an Income Payment Agreement) they will want to be certain that you have sufficient funds to meet your essential outgoings and a final decision won't be based on the figures you've currently got on your form. Post again after your interview because I'd bet there are things you can include as expenditure that you've not considered.

As I've said before, I'm not going to wish you luck because you don't need luck; tell things as they happened, try not to be intimidated, and if the interview does last a couple of hours then you'll wonder where the time went.

I will wish you all the best, and I sincerely do,

Please let us know how you get on,

    Rich
  • Hi - why do they employ a trustee?? Does that mean it might not be finished with tomorrow?
  • Thanks for that Richard will be in touch again
