Buyer protection - please return to another address

Hi,

Had a problem with a purchase, item was described as excellent condition, I didn't agree.

Went through Buyer Protection, seller disagreed and would not refund. Waited 8 days for eBay to decide on the case.

Finally this morning eBay say to return the item for a refund and include paid postage. Hooray!

Seller sends an email asking for me to send the item to their work instead.

Am right in thinking that if I post to this other address that I'll be left without buyer protection, fork out for postage and be at the mercy of the seller for my refund?

Thanks
Keith

Thanks, as expected the seller has moved. I've replied to customer service.

Oh god, here is the reply from customer service...

I understand that you were informed by seller that seller is no longer live n the address which is registered on seller’s eBay account.

Keith, you have nothing to worry , please continue sending the item using the postage we’ve provided to you. Once we can verify that the item has been successfully delivered to your seller we will close the claim on your favour and issue you a refund to your PayPal account.

I'm not sure what to do!
  • Return it to the address eBay have given you, its the sellers responsibility to ensure their details are correct so its their own fault if they moved and didn't update their details.

Just phoned eBay and they have confirmed that the item can go to the address the seller has messaged me.

I pointed out that I thought this was against the rules but the guy didn't even acknowledge it!

Should I cover myself with a recorded delivery to the other address?
  • I wouldn't act on the advice from a phone call to ebay as their customer service people sometimes say anything and you end up the loser. Act strictly in accordance with ebays rules and return to the address ebay have provided only . Its the sellers problem to change their details on ebay or organise redirections etc.If ebay are prepared to email you to say its ok to send to the new address then thats ok, but if not I would not do it or you will end up the loser.

Great stuff - send there then.

@Never Enough - distinguishing between CS reps is important. Manila are baaaaaaaaad. Dublin are very good.

  • Glad its all panning out ok for OP

crowqueen, from experience I don't take telephone instructions from ebays CS, :) unless they are prepared to confirm it with an email- occasionally, they have been (probably Dublin!) but if not, the only one standing to lose is usually me, so I try again for written confirmation. Glad that sense has prevailed for once though, and the address has now been satisfactorily amended so OP can send in safety.
