Morning GL! I think it really shines a light on who are real friends and who are 'socialising friends'. It shouldn't cost a penny to enjoy the company of a real friend, and they should also appreciate you for you, not the money / possessions you have, and want you to better yourself and so understand. It's sad but this past month or so has really made me realise who matters!
Hope you're good otherwise, and not too cold where you are! I left for work at half 6 this morning and I've only just defrosted!!! BRRR!September 2016 GC £21.37/£1200 -
Hi GL,
Couldn't agree more on learning who your true friends are, true friends don't need you spend money to spend time with them
Glad to hear you had a good Halloween, any news on the car sale yet ?

Thank you again fellow posters!
Brizzle, many thanks for you kind offer, after reading your post I looked up the book on amazon and the reviews were amazing and the book appears to be everything I am looking for- a simple life with just 'enough'. I bought a 9p copy- hope it will be delivered soon. After I've read it I hope to donate it to one of the lovely, supportive friends I've met via this diary.
Good day for me, busy but productive day at work- did some jobs at my parents after work and have quickly showered and am enjoying a glass of wine whilst catching up on diaries with my doggies at my feet.
Taking my mum and sis Christmas shopping on Sat- bit nervous as I have been avoiding shopping centres but needs must- I hope to stick to my list and make myself proud!

Morning all,
I have actually got the laptop on which means I can reply properly! I have been reading away, and would like to say thanks for the book recommendation - sorry, I can't remember who recommended it - as I have reserved a copy from the library to have a read through.
Our problem is that we have, on paper, plenty of money but we never seem to have any IYSWIM? We tend to buy the extras on the CC and then pay it off at the end of the month, but what I've realised we need to do is reverse that, so that we set aside the money first and then make the purchases......
We have a loan we are repaying, as we extended a couple of years ago and the contingency needed a contingency we didn't have, so we ended up with debt on CCs which we got a loan to clear. So, we aren't in lots of frivilous debt like some people, but we still have a chunk to get rid of. I'd like to get it paid off early (one year gone, four left) but there always seems to be something else cropping up - my cam (?) belt now needs doing for example.
I really 'felt' the comments about keeping up with others/maintaining a lifestlye.....it's so easy to get caught up with the peer pressure etc to have everything and so on, and we fall into this trap over and over!! We have a big three bed detached house, I don't feel the 'need' to move to a better area like alot of my friends at the mo, I like where we live, it's full of families and normal people (not snobby, cliquey types where the keeping up issue would be 100 times worse), but I would like our house to be finished!!!!! We seem to get 90% of a room done, then live with it, and hace the finishing off jobs left to do!! But, we're getting there, I like our house to feel homely, but I appreciate the living simply element of the thread! We seem to have so much 'stuff'......not loads of clothes, say, but just 'stuff'!!! I go through phases of ebaying, and taking bags to the charity shop, but still we have stuff (we do have three kids though!). SO, I'm enjoying reading about other people's quests to steamline their finances and their houses!!
Enough waffling, must get on and sort the washing/ironing out!
Hope everyone has a good day
