Currys Cooker illegal advertising

Apologies for such a long story...
I recently moved into a new house that needed a lot of work done to it. I delayed buying essential electricities until I'd be moving in. So, on 13 September it was time to buy a cooker. I needed a 60cm width and searched on Curry's website for one.
A silver 60cm electric cooker came up at the price of £169.99 and I immediately thought what a great deal! But to be sure I phoned the curry's sale team, spoke to a woman who reassured me that it was the correct price and was 60cm wide.
With this reassurance I bought it immediately online. It was delivered yesterday (Saturday) without any problems. However, I immediately noticed it wasn't the right size and measured it - 50cm wide! What a nightmare, I'm a single mother with a very young son so can't afford to live in a house without a cooker even for a few days.
I phoned Currys immediately and told them about the mistake. They wouldn't believe me, I rechecked online the model number and the model number of my cooker - all identical. I said that this was false advertising, the only way that I bought it was because of the 60cm width and the price. The woman on the phone was very cheeky, probably inexperienced with these things, which is fine it is isn't her fault at all.
Anyway, they offered me a 10% discount off another cooker. Maybe I'm being a bit ridiculous, but isn't what they did false, deceptive and illegal advertising? They haven't even corrected what they called a 'human error' - the cooker is still online for the same price and described as 60cm wide when it's actually 50cm!
Does anyone know what I can do about this?
Thanks!:)

I'm guessing its this one http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/essentials-cfsesv12-electric-cooker-silver-12309597-pdt.html and everywhere in the description it says 60cm. I too would be very disappointed if a 50cm cooker turned up, but is it essential to have a 60cm cooker? The cheapest 60cm are near the £300 mark, so I can understand you thought you were getting a bargain. Maybe Currys will further discount this one, as a goodwill gesture, if you ring them again make sure you speak to a supervisor and make notes of your phone call.0

It's always wise to be very careful before making statements like "illegal" and "deceptive".
Your best solution is to jump at the chance to get the 10% discount on a new cooker of the right size, before you rub them up the wrong way and they withdraw their offer of a discount. You could try explaining the situation regarding your child and see if they will do a next day delivery.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0 -
For goodness sake, it was a mistake, not false advertising, deception or illegal.
What possible reason would they have for deliberately wanting to decieve you into thinking that cooker was 60cm instead of 50cm when it would be obvious as soon as it was delivered?
Accept their offer of 10% discount and move on,.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Yes you are being ridiculous...it is a mistake, most likely a Human one...you never made one?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Of course people make mistakes but I expected them to remove it much quicker than this so that other people don't experience the same hassle. I can't just understand and forgive their stupid error when I have a young child to feed.
10% discount doesn't help when they refused to offer a refund. Will probably ring tomorrow to speak to someone more helpful and hopefully get a better response as refusing a refund is ridiculous. Thanks for the help.0 -
In terms of a refund - you can quite rightly reject this cooker under SOGA, as it does not meet the Sold As Described clause. This means they must give you a full refund (including any delivery charges) AND pay to recover the goods. Anything beyond that is goodwill.0
