Sky Go / Multiroom Ipod Lead

Would it be possibe to save the additional £10 per month multiroom subscription and use the following.

1. An ipod touch with the Sky Go application

2. One of these leads...

Would be streaming over WI-FI.

Any ideas if it would work what the picture quality would be like? And would it be full screen on the TV?

Thanks

It'd only be composite video and it'd be streamed over Wi-FI, so I doubt you'd get an acceptable picture quality. I'd also be inclined to suspect Sky will have some kind of block to this written into the Sky Go Application.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true.
  • Sky Go can be used as a form of "multiroom lite" and depending on your subscription and the device used can give you up to 38 Sky channels on a second TV but quality is really dependant on the device you use (its graphics capability) and the size of TV you attach it to. I use it on my laptop to a 19" LCD TV and the quality is about the same as using a coax and magic eye to a second TV - acceptable.

Quality is dependant on your internet connection, the display graphics of the device and how it is connected to the second TV (which on laptops at least can be HDMI and as good as the output from a Sky box although only SD). Nothing in the Ts & Cs to stop this - after all it is supposed to be a way of watching Sky independantly on a second devices, so why would they block it?

Obviously because it's designed primarily for mobile 'phones, not full size television sets for which Sky have potential Multi-room subscriptions to protect.

The Sky Go service itself isn't solely designed for use with mobile devices as is evidenced by the fact that it is available through the Xbox Live platform which in the vast majority of cases is used in conjunction with a full size television. As a Sky TV customer I get full access to the Sky Go service through my Xbox.

Might be a better option for the OP than their own solution. Do you get HD through your X-Box?

Unfortunately there's no HD service at present.

The picture quality is reasonable but inferior to the SD quality on services such as Netflix. It's a little poorer than the SD Sky TV service in my opinion but is certainly watchable.

To me, that isn't a saving on Multi-room and it's just the sort of "unofficial" block to alternative viewing that Sky would have instigated deliberately.
Personally, I can't watch standard definition TV these days-let alone SUB STANDARD definition!

I use it mainly just as a catch up service if I've missed something and forgotten to record it. Of course, it has never been intended by Sky to be used as an alternative to multiroom so it doesn't have the functionality or the bells and whistles that come with multiroom.

I'm quite alright with SD. Heck, when you watch as many obscure films as I do on twenty year old VHS that never even got a DVD release, let alone Blu-Ray, you have to be. :D

    Thanks everyone for the replies.

My main tv downstairs is set up for an HD picture and also has a blu-ray player attached.

The original question of using an ipod was an idea for a second tv in a kids bedroom. Mainly for watching Disney XD. The quality would only need to be of DVD or similar
