I would not renege on an offer I had accepted, unless I had said in the first place that it was a conditional acceptance only and that if someone came along who was more procedable then I would go with them.
If I had unconditionally accepted an offer, i would stick with it (but would take the procedable person's details in case the sale fell through).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

But that's what it always is in England anyway, any sale is subject to contract until the contract is actually signed, you can't really blame people for taking advantage of that.
It's different if someone tries to renege after the contract has been signed.0 -
I don't like it, it happened to me and it wasn't very nice. I've since heard that the gazumper is now threatening to pull out of the sale as the vendor hasn't found herself a house yet. The best bit is that she has offered on a few but has been gazumped a few times herself! What goes around....0

If it's still gazumping when your offer is lower than the one that had already been accepted but you can move faster than the original buyer, then I gazumped someone and imo, I've done nothing wrong.
On the contrary I've saved the whole chain from probable collapse (assuming everything goes through!) The previous buyer had had months to get things moving and hadn't made any progress.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
