Fibre Optic Broadband at my local exchange but not in my road / post code ?

Options
Hello.

My local telephone exhange (BOTLEY) is "fibre optic enabled" but its still not available in my post code?

I have contacted TT / BT / Plusnet and various other ISP's but none of them can give me a date of when it might be enabled in my road?

My current speeds are about 1mbps with plusnet but tt say they can give me 3mbps

Its quicker to use the internet through my mobile than what it is to use my phone line!

It is a safe bet that all exchanges are 'fibre enabled'. It is the street cabinets adjacent to you that need to be. It is fairly easy to tell, as Bzt will need to replace (or add) a larger street cabinet to bring the fibre closer to you. If the original/old box is still there on its own - it's not available, regardless of what the online checkers say.

BT Openreach decide if and when your local cabinet will be replaced with a fibre-enabled one. AFAIK the decision making process takes into account technical and financial considerations e.g. if your cabinet is very far away from the exchange then the potential uplift in speed is quite small compared to closer cabinets (my cabinet falls into this category but even a doubling of 1.4Mb/s would be very welcome). Financially, Openreach look at the number of subscribers attached to each cabinet to determine if the cost/benefit justification can be made (due to geography I know that our cabinet serves a maximum of 100 properties)

In December 2011 Openreach briefly published their 'per cabinet' rollout plans on their website. Copies were taken and a number of websites were developed that allow you to check if and when your cabinet is planned to be upgraded and the likely uplift in speed from ADSL. One such site is http://fttc-check.alc.im. If your cabinet is in the plans it is assigned to a phase - Google can help answer the question of what date range each phase code roughly relates to.

My cabinet is not included in the plans - too far away and too small :-(
