No Co-op. What now for imminent BRs?

Yes I had the basic NatWest 'step' account, but they changed it so you can only use certain cash machines...I called to moan and they upgraded me to 'advantage gold' account that costs £8 a month. I have never borrowed from NatWest and have banked with them a few years now. I was hoping they'd just leave me be if I went BR! Too much to ask I suppose :/

When I went BR in 2008 I was allowed to keep my LloydsTsb account as I didn't owe them any money. Natwest may be the same.

Hopefully! I may as well ask them directly...at least I can prepare something else if I have a negative response.

What a shocker. Just when you're getting all your ducks in a row, Co-op stops the BR friendly account.
Can anyone help re BR basic accounts now please?
I owe big lumps of money to Barclays, and will be going BR next month.
My head's in bits over this.
    Thanks

Open a Nationwide account, just before BR, they once allowed BR but don't any more if after BR but may not close it if opened before and the OR is not interested in that account.

This is what happened to me, the OR said she was not interested in the account but still had to tell Nationwide I was now BR and it would be up to them if they closed it, they didn't, they never even contacted me.

barclays withdraw the online services for bankrupts

I got full online banking and phone banking too, I opened my account after BR, the same day. I even told them I had just gone BR.

But some are not so lucky.

I also kept my Lloyds TSB acc throughout, I went into the branch and discussed my situation with them (I did not owe them money). They were happy to keep my account open, but I did have to ask the OR to write to them to confirm he was happy for them to allow me to operate the account PROVIDED I did not have an overdraft (I had previously had a facility but not used it, so just cancelled it).

I think it does depend on indiviual banks though, sadly

  • Hi
I'll stick to my Natwest, I think, and speak to them after I go BR. I don't owe them or RBS anything. If not, I'll go to Barclays afterwards.
Does anyone manage with just a Cash Plus MC as a bank account?
I've got one already and would like to keep it after BR too so I can have my DDs paid from one account and use my other for cash/daily expenses.
Thanks for the discussion. Really useful info, as always.

    Hi folks.....

If you read the relevant threads regarding Co-op's change of policy, you will see that teh Co-op has....at this point in time, only withdrawn the Cashminder basic account, from undischarged BR applicants.

Therefore, it might be a wise policy to open such accounts before one petitions for BR?

It appears, once opened...if the customer subsequently petitions BR then the account can continue.

Therefore, as I see it, the only people the Co-op's change of policy will affect, are those who have a creditor petition for their BR [and without their knowledge]...or, those who do insufficient research, and preparation, for the BR petition.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

no need to tell them as your OR will, the OR will know the right person to talk too, you may just get the call centre which may lead to problems.
  • What if you opened a cash minder account pre-BR, didn't put it on your SOA, then the OR wouldn't have sight of it to tell them of your BR, and all will be ok? Surely they only know a customer has gone BR if they are told?
  • BR-noob you are legally obliged to fill in your forms accurately to the best of your knowledge and you sign to say you have done.

The OR will check your CRA files and most accounts are listed on there.
