No Co-op. What now for imminent BRs?

What a shocker. Just when you're getting all your ducks in a row, Co-op stops the BR friendly account.
Can anyone help re BR basic accounts now please?
I owe big lumps of money to Barclays, and will be going BR next month.
My head's in bits over this.
Thanks

Hi changling, barclays will give you an account, but it is wise not to open it until the day after the bankruptcy

My DH is the same. Barclays is not the preferred choice as I hear it offers no kind of online banking and therefore is pretty no good to him

Well there isn't a choice now. It's that or nothing. Unfortunately.

According to this you can manage the account online. I've not heard from anyone with one though. It would be interesting to hear from someone using one as to how up to date the online system is. It might actually be better than a Cashminder with Co-op.

  • Well I'm currently preparing for BR in about a month...Currently bank with NatWest and I don't owe them any money...would I just be able to continue with them?
  • No they don't accept BR

Oh. Then the loss of Cashminder is going to be an enormous blow. I am now really thankful this happened after I went BR and got mine.

  • I'm no expert on the matter, but Natwest do a basic current account that simply does not credit check you, and therefore they may be ok? I don't know however if they will ask you about the bankruptcy
  • Yes I had the basic NatWest 'step' account, but they changed it so you can only use certain cash machines...I called to moan and they upgraded me to 'advantage gold' account that costs £8 a month. I have never borrowed from NatWest and have banked with them a few years now. I was hoping they'd just leave me be if I went BR! Too much to ask I suppose :/
