Hi,

I'm going to get a sim free iphone 5, i'm currently using a GiffGaff sim with my IP4, but it seems like they won't have nano sims for a while.

So i want to get a PAYG sim so i can use my phone until GG get some nano sims, there seems to be some good deals on one month rolling contracts, but I want PAYG with no contract.

Ideally i'd like 1GB of data, or at least 500mb, has anyone found any options?

Thanks

3 mobile has nano sims, on PAYG it's £5 for 500MB valid for 30days, or you can pay for one of their packages http://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Pay_As_You_Go

you will need to go instore to get the nano sim.
  • You can cut down an existing mini or micro sim down to nano sim form.

Cutters are available on ebay, or you can do it yourself with a craft knife or scissors. Plenty of help available on youtube.

I'm really hoping that is the case, but given that nobody has tried a cut down sim in an actual IP5, I'm looking for contingencies if it does not work.

it's possible you may have to order a PAYG 3 sim from the the website register it to you then go in and have it swapped, I'm not sure how it will work instore for people who are new to 3, but people who are already on 3 (ie already have a sim card) can just pop in and have their sim swapped no problem.

you can cut down a sim card, but you also need to shave a little off the back as nano sims are thinner, it certainly is much easier to just use a pre cut nano sim.

Is this true though? Some pictures posted on Google show a different SIM layout as well as different size and thickness.
You can definitely cut down a normal SIM to make it a microsim, but a nanosim? Hmm...
  • I've just been round my local mobile shops. The Apple store said they haven't got any in, but are sure they would have by friday. Three said they have them in stock. 02 and Orange and Carphone Warehouse have none.
Three seem to be offering the best plan offering unlimited data so far, but most of the others haven't got an iphone 5 plan published yet as far as I can see.

If you're with GiffGaff already, why not order a few Sims and Try to Cut one down to a Nano Sim (you may need to use some sandpaper on the back to make it a little thinner). The reason I say some if if you mass up you have a few spares.

Also with GaffGaff the Sims are free and PAYG so no cost if you mess up, but if you get one working, top up and buy a Goodbag....

There is s user on the GiffGaff forums who has cut down a sim to nano and tested it in some Chinese phone he has that is nano sim compatible.

I have also cut down and sandpapered a sim to test, using it in an adapter (but being nano size and thickness) and it still works fine.

I think the scare stories around the net about it being incompatible are just that, scare stories.
