Doit4real holidays for 10-17 yr olds

Places are limited so if your thing of going dont leave it too late

2 of mine went a couple of years ago & really enjoyed it.

It is partly funded by the lottery.

The leaflet says the following:
Standard price is £399 for people living outside of England

English residents who are recieving child tax credit its £199

English residents who are on income support/recieving working family tax credit/recieving free school dinners it £25

There are many activities to choose from. watersports/activity/survival skills/action adventure/film & media/Quest/live like a star/performing arts.

The holiday is from a sunday-Friday. There are pick up points across the country.

The prices have gone up quite a lot since mine went (it cost me £125 each I think) we never have a holiday so it was a treat for them. They had a great time & came back with some great photos.

If you are on income support its a great holiday for the children if you cant afford a family holiday

My kids have been 2 years running, £125 the first year, then as they had been before, it was about £300 each last year. As they had enjoyed it so much, we coughed up. However, whilst they had a good time last year, the majority of the group were from childrens homes or in care. Whilst I appreciate this was a fantastic opportunity for those kids, and probably the only holiday they were likely to get, my kids were way out of their depth with this very street wise bunch. Several of them made my girls feel nervous, and they were laughed at for 'choosing' and 'paying' to be there. I was a bit dis-heartened at this, considering what it had cost me for my 2 children to go.

If you have to pay full price, wait a few more months. Last year they had it on buy one get one free, so good if you have 2 children to go or can split the cost with a friend.
  • What would be the cost if you are recieving child tax credit AND working tax credit as it is a bit misleading on the website and says working families tax credit
Many thanks to OP by the way .

  • my ds went last year but the place where he went isnt there for 07, the prices have gone up, they have reduced the days(were 6 day stays), reduced the activities and places to choose from - ds will be disappointed as had previously agreed to meet with friends that he made from last year to go to same place.

My daughter (aged 14) and her friend went last year, and I paid the full price. I agree with bj-sailaway about how much fun these camps are, as my daughter has never stopped talking about it for 9 months! She never mentioned any problems at all ('street wise' kids etc). Hopefully bj-sailaway's kids problems were a one off, and it hasnt put them off.

As for my daughter, she cant wait to go again this year and hopes to meet the same type of friendly, happy, outgoing, likeminded kids & helpers as last year.

Dont be put off sending your kids, its a great confidence builder and has given my daughter some great memories.

Oh bother I was sure it was £99 last yr. I was just thinking about these today and was going to check if dd was old enough, was it not 11 before? £199 is way to much for me :-(
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

Thanks for the reply, your experience was very much as my girls first year. Which camp did yours go to? That may help make a good choice!
  • My son went last year and had a fab time at the YHA filmmaking camp. Just wanted to put in a plug for anyone who might have a kid with a disability--my son's mildly autistic and we had no problems (at least not any major enuogh to call mom and dad about), they were very accommodating and he met some nice kids. Just sent off the application for this year, paid for through his Direct Payments account (this is money he receives in lieu of benefits).
Note: they make a point of saying 'don't use our camp as respite care,' which is code for 'we can't handle really severe disability'. So it's not an option if your child isn't fully independent with things like dressing, toileting and so on, they don't have that level of staff in place. The staff they do have seem quite good. If you have any questions, call the YHA office, they were very helpful to me.
