thanks guys..i will have a look at these sites now. I found one called wallsandfloors.co.uk that doesnt seem too bad also. Missed out on the homebase laura ashley ones yesterday at £10 a box....would have made things a lot more simple..oh well!

Their prices don't include VAT so you need to factor that into the tile price.

You also need to get them to send you samples of the tiles you want.

They are fine to order from if you like the tiles, done your measuring properly and can wait for them to be delivered.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Have to be honest and say that that Topps Tiles are probably the most expensive, have a look on the DIY supplier websites as most are cheaper than Topps Tiles. The wonderful bargains on offer with Topps are just to get you in store, the actual prices are usually far more for anything but rubbish.

    This is soooooooooooo true.....

It has baffled me for years quite how Topps have managed to get away with it for so long. They do normally have a couple of decent ranges at fair prices, and their BAL prices to the trade are pretty good (though exorbitant to the general public). But apart from that, they have nothing which you cannot get better for less elsewhere.

Those saying your local independent for a complete range at a decent price or Wickes or B&Q for good honest budget stuff but a far more limited range are correct. Topps sucker people with marketing and stock onto paying over the odds alot of the time.

As someone else said, you should really check them, make sure they are rectilinear for example. I used cheap B&Q porcelain floor tiles in my porch, £10 a square meter, and they look good. I had some more expensive ceramic floor tiles from Topps put down in my bathroom, and I'm sure they are not rectilinear. Also some of the wall tiles have flaws, and the tiler did not ditch those, just shoved 'em on. I'm not sure how you check for absence of flaws, I suppose you can't, just don't use them!

When looking for large matt white porcelain tiles, Topps were the only source I could find. They certainly had the largest range in the shops within a 20 mile radius. It is possible I missed the best shop of course. :D

You probably did...if there is one mistake alot of the indy's make it is not displaying things properly, it makes finding what you want harder. Mind you they often cant afford the rent on a massive shed...

Not saying Topps dont market and display things properly...by and large they do, and an awful lot of indy's dont.....

But I am willing to bet, particularly if you are in the South East, you could have easily found a similar, better, properly callibrated matt white porcelain for less money...granted you would have had to look for it.:D

I do agree with the poster who recommends seeing tiles "in the flesh". I've a stack of samples of large matt white tiles, bought both on and offline, and I have to say that, of those, Topps are by quite some margin the "best" white (a personal thing, I know). And though I'm normally a fan of Wickes, their white tiles are not, in my probably over-picky opinion, remotely close to white.

But it doesn't matter at all what I think-you need something you're happy with and that works with the light in your bathroom. Samples are your friend...get collecting ;)

Very true...take them home look at them in your light not the shops... Oh, and most of Wickes whites (made mostly by BCT) are not the whitest, tis true...
  • wickes do a price match, they will beat the price and give you 10% discount

hello thanks everyone for your info, ended up ordering from wallsandfloors.co.uk in the end as the price was reduced further and i found a 10% voucher so thought id just take a gamble...tiles arrived today while i was at work , came home to find i am one box short so i called them up and they said sorry 10 boxes were booked out but they asked no more questions and said another box will be with me monday so cant complain. Tiles look of a fair quality.

Walls & Floors are a decent company, so that is not too much of a risk....
