    Then perhaps your agent was not very thorough! They should check references - speak to the people themselves, contact employer, previous LL etc and then pass all the details on to the new LL to verfiy they are happy for the tenancy to proceed.

    Read my reply above - the credit check is only 1 part of the tenancy application. Agreed, it is usually pretty quick - I do my own and they reply within 24 hours, but following up the references, particularly if the people the tenant has nominated at not available, can take longer.
