decor?

hi

when selling your home, how much money would you spend on decorating it before you sell,

does the decor really increase the value by a great amount

or do most buyers buy with the intention of painting and decorating themselves anyways?

Decorating won't increase the value of your home. What it will do it make it more attractive to potential buyers (if done right of course).

Even a fresh lick of paint on the walls, maybe paint woodwork etc can refresh a property greatly. You dont have to spend much, but just enought to make the best of what you have.
  • some people buying a house don't want to any work to do on it, so therefore a freshly painted place would be more appealing, but only if the house is relatively fresh all through

having said that, some people see that new decoration is trying to hide something

i did think that, because when i bought the same house in question, i hated the wallpaper, but it was location, views, etc that got me to buy, but i just wanted to be sure,

My view? About £500. Some prospective buyers would be put off if the property isn't presented as clean and neutral as possible. Some see dark wall-colours and busy wallpaper as a property which needs work doing to it and won't be able to see past it. You just have to view a couple of those "Sell Your House" programmes on the telly to appreciate how a pale and neutral colour-scheme and some serious decluttering can improve how spacious and light a property appears.

I think that clean and tidy is better than a quick paint job, just make sure everything is clean thats half the battle..
