Why did I pay less tax this month?

Im not sure if anyone can help me but I just thought I would ask.

I always get the same wages every month (full time employed on PAYE).

However, this month I got around £50 more than usual. When I looked at my pay slip, I have paid this exact amount less tax than I usually do.

Do you know what the reason for this could be or should I ask my employers/the tax office?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Well what was your tax code last month and what is it this month
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • If they've changed your tax code, they might also have refunded some of the tax you've already paid this year. So don't bank on getting £50 more every month.
  • last month the tax code was 737L and this month it is 786L

even more confusing - i asked my payroll dept who said they were expecting me to pay more tax this month as my benefits have increased!

i guess i had better go through the agony of calling the tax office!

The normal tax code for this year is 810L so they are giving you less tax relief for something.

Do you have any perks from work, that have decreased from last year.

Do you mean you pay into a pension fund. That is irrelevant.

But if you have medical cover then yes, that will be what has changed your tax code.

Ask your employer why the medical cover tax releif has changed, you may be getting less cover than you think.

It will settle down over the next payday.

What does your P2 Coding Notice say about the change to your tax code?

How much are your benefits this tax year? How much were they last tax year?
