Wondering whether talkmobile (CPW) will cap my bill if I ask them?
I keep seeing these horror stories about people getting bills for £1300, £2400 & now £5000
Then I think there but for the grace of God go I
I want to cap my bill at £100 (just in case) - anyone done anything like that?

When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

They will.
However, don't believe a word they tell you.

you can check your talkmobile account online every day if you like, to see if you are getting near your inclusive minutes/texts/data limits.0

I think the OP was worried that it may be stolen but having said that surely they woudl know it was and contact TT/TM?
i have CPWs very own Bill Angel app on my phone which alerts me when I get to 90% of my allowance and then again when i get to 100%. Seems to work well.0 -

This app relies on mobile data connection. Huge bills abroad are usually caused by data roaming.i have CPWs very own Bill Angel app on my phone which alerts me when I get to 90% of my allowance and then again when i get to 100%. Seems to work well.0 -

Whilst I accept TM don't appear to offer data roaming packages, fact is should you go abroad blissfully unaware of the need to not use your data like you do in the UK, I suspect you will face a far lower 'shock bill' with them than with most other suppliers.0 -

Nonsense! Any "professional" thief will be able to break this. There are lots of stories in the newspapers about people who didn't report missing phones immediately because they thought their phone was fully protected by passwords, and ended up with bills for thousands.
I'm not saying that password protection isn't a good idea. It will give you some protection against other household members and "friends" messing around with your phone, and may DELAY thieves from accessing a stolen phone (giving you more time to realise it is missing and get it blocked), but don't assume it will give good protection.0 -
I'd be interested in reading some 'stories', hopefully with some explanations.
I would guess these stories are a result of far too big time delay set for a phone to get locked after being used.0 -
I think the issue was that people believed that their phones were protected by the PIN and phone locking, and didn't report the missing phone immediately - the PIN and phone locking gave them a false sense of security...
For example:

Far from being convincing.
"...Believing it to be disconnected and PIN-protected"
"I wasn't worried because I had a £125 credit limit in place and a PIN on my phone"
Neither says definitely that both password for a phone and a PIN for a sim card were in place.
"He didn't worry too much because he had Vodafone's insurance for his handset" - this is just laughable. "The 26-year-old law graduate" seems to be just stupid.
The second victim mentions 'sim lock', but it is not clear what this means, and the network says that the "sim card was taken out and put into two other handsets" that implies that the sim was not PIN-protected.
I don't see any real confirmation that a sim with a PIN protection can be easily hacked by a professional. I am no expert, but to me it is about the same as hacking a chip-and-pin debit card.0 -

i was conned into buying tm contract in a carphone w shop by promise of a cap of £10 I'm now told they can't cap my bills and that it there is a 48 hr delay between me incurring charges and them knowing about it so it is possible to exceed the limit by thousands in this time delay bat which point they let you know you have exceeded the limit and block your phone but you are still liable .Its very scary I bought phone for my daughter because of so called cap and she texted a weird number thinking all texts were included as 5000 texts inc in contract. there was no warning Phone was blocked with bill for £37 which talkmobile couldn't even find to start with but it could have been much worse. I'm thinking I'm going to have to destroy the sim and lose the contract It's just too scary I've been wit. O2 til now and they block instantly you pass your limit and warn in advance. ?bill angel doesn't record premium texts so that advice from cpw doesn't help0
