When my car is off the road and I take the bus can I claim for the bus fare? Is it an expense?

Depends on whether you're taking the bus to only do a mystery shopping job or not.

i.e if I wanted to go to London for the day to visit a friend and I happen to pick up a MS job, I can't claim the whole bus fare as an expense as the journey is not wholly and exclusively for business. I could claim a portion though but I don't think there are any rules as to how much.

However, if I get the bus to town to do a job and then leave then yes I can claim it all.

That tax man would have a hard time proving you didn't just go and do the job, as long as it leaves you in profit for that job then claim the full amount.

mmm well bank wouldnt take the cheque..., mos said even if she processed it, it would most likely be returned and id be charged for the pleasure. !

Instead ive sent FF an email requesting payment via bacs as before and payment of all the jobs they owe me from since jan as 3 months is taking the p*$$ and not doing their reputation any favours

I have had success by sticking it in one of those cheque only boxes or ATM pay in services in the past. Mind I always get overseas agencies to pay via Paypal, any Paypal fee is of course tax deductible.

Is it still an incidental benefit if you are told what product to buy? E.g. I'm going out for a meal and told I MUST have a steak - surely this is different to 'we will reimburse you for an item of clothing up to £15'? If you are being asked to report on the product as well as the service I would argue that is different?

PS - can I claim the meal for OH & DD as an expense :D.

What a nightmare of a brief that is, maybe why there are still loads around here to do when they usually vanish quickly.

Find a less attentive MOS ;););)
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Anyone else doing a QDOS hotel visit? It will be my first tomorrow and looks involved but good rate of pay and lots of meals/drinks! Any experience here in doing those, pitfalls? Thanks.

Anyone else done any work for QDOS? Are they a good client to do work for?
  • I really enjoy the work I do for QDOS, unfortunately it doesn't come about too often! I do like the hotel visits, hopefully I'll get to do a few in the summer. All I would say is pay attention to the main purpose of the visit (the cash) - you can get names, descriptions etc, later if necessary.

I did my first one a couple months back. My Advice is be systematic. Complete one aspect, go back to the room write it up. Double check the brief for the next part repeat the process. I enjoyed it to be honest. In a sense it's easier than most MS as you constantly have the brief to refer to (in the comfort of your hotel room obviously!)
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk

  • Hi guys,
Im after a bit of advise, im not sure if client names are meant to b mentioned as some do & others dont however ive done a lot of work in march for the one with the 'naked name' who are supposed to have paid between 15th - 20th and no payment or a reply to my emails :(

Im worried now does anyone have any experience with this or know what I should do ?

    Thanks in advance
