Car trailer help

My son has a special needs tricycle and we are now looking for a trailer to take his trike and other bikes on day trips. There's nowhere close by for him to go triking except the park, which sucks.

Biggest issue is that we have very little space to store a trailer, ideally it would have to fold to fit in a small shed.

Since I know nothing about trailers other than the ones in half odds are too bulky, I thought I'd ask you guys. Any suggestions?

    As little as possible.

I'd imagine they could be strapped into a plain box trailer? We tried the trike in the boot and bikes on a rack, but it's a peugeot 5008 and the only racks we found were crap or mega expensive.

Wouldn't it be better to get one of those tacks that go on the back of the car, or even a roof rack.

Look for a trailer that can be stored on its end where the number plate goes. These normally have outboard or recessed lights.

You will also need to check your driving license to see if you can tow trailers !

No you don't. Even a B licence holder can tow a trailer this sort of size.
  • Agree its not likely to exceed 750kg.

Unbraked trailer is OK as long as its under 750kg or less than half the unladen weight of the car.
Some cars have lower limits and some are not approved for towing though. So double check.

But even a small camping type trailer is fairly bulky and you wont want to strip and assemble each time you want to use it.

But thinking about it you would only need a T shaped chassis, with small brackets to clamp the wheels.

But getting one made wont be cheap. 2 small axle units are approx £120.

As category B but with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg. The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 3,500 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle

The above entitlement is for drivers who passed after Jan '97

If the trike was ok in the boot and the problem is the bikes on a rack, a decent bike rack, try towbar mounted, should be cheaper and less hassle than a trailer.
