Hi, My mum is disabled, but able to walk very short distances, we dont have a drive so i try to park as close the front door as poss, but my neighbour has 5 cars and always parks outside my door so i end up parking half way down the road, i know that i have no right to park outside my own door and i have asked my neighbours not to park there but they are completely ignorant and im sure now do it on purpose, would care & repair wales put a parking space in my front garden or would they put a disabled space on the road? thanks

You can ask your council but they may need to see whether there are issues with parking and also if they did allow a disabled parking spot others with BB could park there too its not for your use only. Its a shame your neighbours cant be a little less selfish0

In addition, DLA may be possible to claim, to help somewhat with the costs.0

We had the same problem, they didn't put a disabled bay as at least 4 people on the street have blue badges but they did put a drive in our front garden. We had to go through Social services who got the council to do it. We had our 2 bedrooms knocked into 1 at the same time so our bill would have been £4000 and we had to pay £500 towards the work.september wins - toshiba laptop, timotei shampoo & conditioner, mccains games, pimms picnic blanket.
october wins - grants tumblers, £20 petrol voucher, sega console, iphone
novembers wins - £50 on walkers rainy day, £50 itunes voucher
march wins - dog treats0 -

I am not clear from the above whether your mother has a Blue Badge or not. If not I should apply for one as soon as possible as it can take a couple of months. If she is entitled to DLA then it will be easier to get a BB.
Are there any disabled parking bays in the road already? If there are not in the immediate area they should be able to put one need your house.
I know that somepeople can be very inconsiderate but do the people with 5 cars know your Mum is disabled? Maybe if you had a word? . While anyone with a BB can use a disabled bay, if they did so without one then they can be prosecuted.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Most disabled bays are only advisory unless there is a sign saying otherwise.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
I would have thought that a disabled bay that the council put next to someone's house would be specifically for that person. Is that not the case then? Sorry to ask... I just thought it would be.0

There is one next door to where we live and we have been told that.
Any disabled badge holder can use it.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Many councils are refusing to create disabled bays because it doesn't cost one can of paint and one bloke's time painting it ... but closer to £9,000 by the time they've sat and had meetings about it and got all the layers of manager involved right the way down to somebody telling the man to take the can of paint and paint the lines

Any bay provided by a local authority outside an individual dwelling can legally be used by any Blue Badge holder from anywhere within the UE. So s/h does not have exclusive use of a parking bay outside his or her home. Generally there will be no charge for this service although you can expect to wait for years [statutory requirements have to be satisfied] sometimes depending on your LA.
To apply for a disabled person’s parking place you must :
- be in possession of a current Blue Badge
- be the sole driver of the car
- and there must be no available off street parkingDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem.
