inconsiderate neighbors

ok I have terrace house my neighbors have to go though my garden to put the bins out my house is next to the entry. I dont know who it is but they always leave all the gates open.

three days ago my 12month old son went out in the garden I found him 5mins later in next doors garden he could of easily gone though the entry and out on the street.

so in the interest of safety what can I do? on the deeds im sure it says next door has right of way
I'm thinking of getting an angry dog

Just to get in first....you could watch your child a little more closely? Or at least make sure the places he's playing are secure?

You could try speaking to your neighbours, a kind word now could save a lot of angry words later.

So you could be sitting in your garden and the neighbours just casually walk through as and when they please?

Sounds a bit odd to me, surely they should at least ask first.

I would be putting a padlock on the gate.

I live in a mid-terraced house and it is in our deeds that we must be given reasonable access by our neighbours.

We have a gate between our back garden and one of the neighbours' which we use to take our recycling bins round to the front. We do not abuse the right to access and as our neighbours have a dog we always ensure the gates are closed.

I am sure if you ask your neighbours nicely to ensure gates are shut and explain why they will respect your wishes.

I could but that does no excuse not to close gates behind them

there is a high possibility that they will take no notice ,leaving the gates open is blatant disrespect
